"Pull back the string, keep your left arm straight, sight down the shaft, breath in, release it then release the string..."
Morio and Iruka was down in the cellar of their house at the two archery butts, Morio watched as Iruka's arrow hit the inner ring circle,
"Good now do it again... I want to see it in the bull..."
Again Iruka tried it and it hit the line seperating the bullseye and the inner ring, Grinning Morio ruffled Iruka's hair.

"Dad why don't you shoot some off? didn't you say a true hunter should always practice?"
"Hai a true hunter should always practice but, there is nothing I will gain from shooting at a stationery target... you on the other hand will gain something, come on I want to see you hit the butt eight more times then I will set up the swinging targets how does that sound? have a little tournament? maybe get you Mum involved if she isn't busy with squiggley lines on sheets of paper... that reminds me, your mother wants to teach me how to read and write..."

"Dad its fun, I really like it, why haven't you been taught before now?"

"The clans life is a lot more easy going, also everything is past down from word of mouth... also what use is paper when you live in a forest?"

"I see your point dad, but you don't live in a forest anymore, you live in the two legged world and system, also without books learning magic would be a lot more harder and more dangerous."

"Iruka since when did you become a smart ass? now get to your trainning else I might suggest me and you have a spar instead of target practice!"

"Hai dad..."

Haydn stepped up to the banker and asked to see her bank box. As she was rooting around through he bow collection, she smelled something familiar. Actually, it was more like someone familiar.

"Hello, mum," Iruka greeted her.

"Hello, my pup, what are you up to?" Haydn asked.

Wagging his twin tails, he replied, "I've been reading."

Haydn nodded. Now, to just get Morio to learn how to read and write. He claimed he didn't need it to survive, and she couldn't argue that. But, neither could he deny that it would be another handy tool in his arsenal.

"I wanted to show you something, but you may be too young to get involved in the mess."

"Would you like me to fetch father?" Iruka asked, his fox-ears twitching curiously.

"Yes, please," Haydn responded, and as he ran to get Morio, she finished counting the arrows and bolts in her quivers. Presently, Morio appeared like magic at her side.

"I want to show you something, love. Up for a run to Jhelom?"

"Of course," Morio responded.

Off they darted to the moongate and out into the city of Jhelom.

"It's at the docks, follow me," Haydn said, heading south from the moongate.

"Err, Love, the docks are north.. " Morio responded with a grin.

Haydn quickly turned about to follow him, grumbling at her mistake beneath her breath.

"Not a word of this to anyone..."

Morio only laughed.

Haydn ran about back and forth on the dock, trying to figure out which one of these people was the slimy scholar. Eventually, they both realized it was actually someone inside who was in charge of that business. After speaking with her, they set out to search for these rumored slimes.

Morio knew there were slimes in Ilshenar, large amounts of them, but Haydn assured him these would be different and special slimes. So, she told him once again to follow her into the moongate and onward to the hedge maze.

Only, the hedge maze was annoyingly free of slime.

The kitsunes explored the entire outside of it before setting paw inside. A few tricky twists and turns gave them some cause to grumble, but they picked their way about fairly easily. A few temples were discovered, one with some books that Morio seemed uninterested in. There was one temple with a pool of water that Morio decided would be fun to shove Haydn into. She grabbed his arm to ensure he join her in the landing. They splashed about for a bit, playing. Soon, they decided they'd had enough fun and Morio stepped from the pool. When she emerged, Morio gave her a shove to push her back into the water. Sitting in the water she gave him a look filled with unspoken threats of revenge. He extended a hand and helped her out, after which she made sure to shake as much water as she could onto him. They headed back into the twisting rows of foliage.

On and on they explored around turns here and bends there. Finally, Haydn stopped to rest and suggested they return to Britain because, obviously, there were no slimes here. Morio declared that he had the maze "figured out" and so she let her argument rest and followed him. Right into a dead end. Laughing, she gave him a soft spank.

Together they ran through the corridors, until at last, they emerged from the maze.

"I told you I had it figured out, " Morio said.

"Yes, but we were trying to figure in," laughed Haydn.

There was a rumor she'd heard of slimes in the west fields of Britain, so that is where she led Morio next. On the way there, she set about repeating the letters of the alphabet in a sing song way, to ease remembrance. Morio, after the twentieth repetition, decided he'd heard it enough.

"I only need to hear something once, to remember it," he said.

Haydn, her mouth numb now from the damnable alphabet, promptly shut it.

Farm field after farm field they searched, to no avail. Where the hell were these slimes, she wondered. In the end all they found on the fields was hay and turnips.

"I'll cook some of these for dinner," she said as they collected some to take home.
