*A very plain letter, lacking the usual spectacular features that something from the Lich-Lord usually carries with it arrives discreetly in Umbra, it is written entirely in the first-person, an odd informality for Darrien Church*
Myrddin,
Word has reached me of your sucession from heir-apparent to Patriarch of the Umbran nation your mother founded. I write as impossible as it may seem to offer my condolences, while the feelings, emotions and sense of loss that would accompany such a tragedy as this for your House I shed all those years ago with the shackles of my mortal coil I did not ever will death to your mother, or was it my wish to see her die.
That I fear is all I could ever possibly offer along the lines of condolences.
There was an age before you were born I'm sure, where your Mother and I were in some sense for the same goal, and of the same mind. Much had transpired beyond our control driving our mutual purposes apart. Wars, spite, strife, hatred, meddlesome outsiders and so on.
It is my hope now, that in your Mother's name the divide that exists between the names Ab'Arwan and Church may be filled. I feel then that the fates require us to meet, on equal terms free of threats, and malice with the intent of final reconciliation. I ask you to lay aside all prejudice, as I will do, and it is my prayer for you son of Ceinwyn that you wear her crown in a manner that would make her swell with pride.
Simply leave your response at the ancient tomb in your city's centre...it shall find it's way to my eyes.
I remain,
Darrien Church
"If he is truly his mother's son..." The Lich Lord uttered to the masked acolyte transcribing the letter "We could no doubt pen the response ourselves the answer is so apparent. But his mother has surprised us before..." |

The Patriarch silently scanned the letter, condolences for the loss of his mother. He'd seen many letters like this of late, and his eyes now knew what the most important part of the message was. When they found it however, the name was not what Myrddin expected.
Many of Umbra's enemies of old offered condolences, but this was different. There was much more to this letter...and he couldn't afford to ignore it.
Moving to a cold stone table, the Patriarch sat with the letter and began to write several of his own.
One would go to Darrien Church:
Darrien,
Umbra mourns the passing of her matriarch, but in devotion to all that she did we stand as strong and as proud as ever. There are many of both those who actively sought my mother's death, and those who celebrated her life. Ceinwyn is Umbra however, and that shall always be our city's way.
There was a time, even in my life, that the Matriarch was indeed interested in the ways of Oblivion. Enough so that for a time she did serve, there are even those of Oblivion that to this day I beleive she would still respect.
Nevertheless, it must be acknolwedged that as a result of the actions and events of my mother's lifetime, the founding of our Umbran Empire included a ban on the worship and teachings of Oblivion.
In my own experience, in my time as War Master of Umbra, I have no reason to lift this ban. In fact I embrace it still. I will not ignore the past attempts of the damned to rule over Umbra as its own. Nor the attempts of the Dark Order to command us as you whispered in their ear.
I say this so that you know upon your entrence into our meeting hall that this will not change. The divide you speak of is too great to allow it, and it is for the pride of my mother's name that I must hold this beleif...but so the invitation remains.
I will meet with you, Darrien Church, without any hostile intentions.
I will hear what you have to say, and we will speak.
-Myrddin Ab'arawn
