Ok, this is something I have noticed in this thread that actually DOES bother me. Why is a s s in the word filter? I mean, why? UO is rated pg13. A s s is definitely a pg13 friendly word. What else is in the filter? Damn? I guess I'll find out once this posts.

This censorship crotchbuffing is whoresaggingly ridiculous. What the auschwitz is up with it?

The point mainly, is that certain censorships cut down on abusive language. Mostly the things that can be used derogatively against others, or the things members of this community, or posters on this board may find offensive, or that would represent this community as less than respectful, and well-standing.

Censorship bites, everyone knows that. But in some cases, when it's not literature, and not enforced in game, it's better to just ammend to certain reforms in order to avoid problems.

There may be some members of the boards who are in fact of a younger age-group and it would be inappropriate and terribly irresponsible to expose them to language that may be offensive to younger audiences.

Also....who cares? Are you just trying to find something to complain about this week or what? Wink

Then what the wank are they doing here? It's a pg13 rated game.

It just doesn't connect. What about all of the non-pg13 violence and gore and sex that goes on in the game and on the forums?
One of my chars is a young guy who swears a lot when he gets upset. So if I want to do an IC post, his behaivor can't be accurately portrayed?

Technically there is a fairly big difference in the ratings of the ESRB and the MPAA. While pg13 states, no persons under 13 should be admitted without an adult guardian present, there is no law baring sales of a rated "T" game to someone under the age of thirteen, whether or not an adult guardian is present or not. The ESRB, for any ratings under M, is more of a guideline than the MPAA is, for movie ratings.

Ouch Jon that just hurt my head, there should be a ban on speaking on the technicalities of ratings content.

I am just not mature enough to understand it.

*sighs and rubs her head*

A better question: Are there really any 10 year olds in the community? And have they actually not heard any swear words before?

I learned them all from public school by the time I was 6-7 from my peers, and I live in a middle/upper class area.

Just -what- are we trying to protect here?

Game play experience may change online.

ESRB is a crack-pot idea that rarely works.

Censorship gives you something to negotiate around. Like scenario chess playing.

Meh, a s s isn't really a huge deal, as even the "female dog" B word is in some T rated video games, and some PG (not pg13) movies. For example, "Casper," everyone's favorite friendly ghost... that movie uses the B word a few times.

And "Rear end" is used in Shrek.

There are also 12 year olds playing Call of Duty 4.

The matter is one of respect, really. The boards are privately owned and opperated, and not gripeing over ever rule, is a good show of respect to the people who pay for, and upkeep, this forum. *Shrugs*

I'd only considering removing two words from the filter that are currently there, all the rest stay indefinitely. This board is read by the developers as well as new potential members of the community, and to keep the environment that of a community forum, certain language needs to be filtered.

Though there would need to be a vast majority vote on the Support forums for me to revoke the filters on words describing someones posterior or what comes out of it. Razz
