As she was prone to do, Hikiko stood at the center of the bridge on the eastern side of Zento. The sound of the water and the pale lantern-glow in this predawn hour was soothing to her mind and spirit. How grateful she was to return to the city nearest her birth, and to live so well. In fact there were times she regarded her life prior to her current situation as odd and curious, they seemed so distant.

She waited in anticipation of the sound of the soft footfalls that would announce the coming of the other, and her hand drifted to the small charm at her throat that symbolized the balance of all things--and smiled into the darkness.
