The humming of the quiet stillness began to throb through her head until she realized she was not in a dream any longer. The pain in her temples grew and spread. She felt like hot pokers were being stuck throughout her whole body. The tingling in her limbs felt unbearable, but it was feeling and she reveled even in the pain. Was it finally ending? Was she finally going to wake up from this horrid nightmare and embrace life again?

Afraid to have her hopes dashed she contemplated attempting to open her eyes. It took every ounce of energy she could muster, but alas they opened and the light from the day shot through to her eyes like lightning. Abruptly she allowed her lids to shut again and waited a few moments to try again. This time slowly with more control she was able to open them only slightly and allow small amounts of light through. It was a glorious sight even to just see a blank sheet of light. Inside she was dancing and laughing with hope.

Adjusting little by little she was finally able to open her eyes all the way and make out her surroundings. It was a simple room and she could make out shapes with small amounts of detail. In the corner she could see a shape of a person and did not know who it was. Frightened by her inability to see she began to try to sit with no success. Her head only moved inches and her body went nowhere. The shape in the corner began to move closer to her and she became increasingly more skeptical and afraid. She slightly felt pressure on her hand and looking into the blank face she could only moan words of concern. The soothing voice of a man who had helped her through so much came to her ears like a melody. She was safe with him. He had healed her in many ailments and battle wounds. She could feel the muscles relax in her body.
“Lass, I know you are scared, you are mostly likely in pain, and you want more than anything else to get up and find your loved ones. Rest assured you will get back up, but you need to regain control slowly. You have been in this state for many months and your body is weak. It is good to see your mind is still strong. I can see by the look in your eyes even though you can not”

She could feel him sit next to her on the bed, and she heard a sigh of relief exhale out of his body.

“I cannot tell you how relieved I am to see the end of this for you. You now have your life back. After a little bit of help you will be on your way as healthy as you were before. I know you have many questions, but you must rest and regain more strength. Your daughter and your husband are well, take comfort in that. He is a good man and is taking great care of his daughter until your return home. Close your eyes and concentrate on resting as it will help in gaining control of everything else.”

She felt something cold begin to slide down her throat and in moments she felt the pain in her limbs subside and she was able to just lay there with her eyes closed and rest in peace. She was almost there… it was over, now she just needed to get her body back with her mind. Her last thought before peaceful sleep took her was an image of her husband and her daughter in her cradle. So much had happened in her absence and she wanted more than anything to be with them.
