Ceinwyn's laboratory, a few years earlier...

"Oggaroth, I have used Thrax's own blood to give his soul a new home, a new body. It is identical in every way to the other."

The Voice spoke to her, but it was actually Oggaroth, in his body that was doing the speaking.

"We will grant you a favor in return for restoring our faithful demon to life. What is it that you wish?"

Ceinwyn had thought back to younger days, decades prior. The birth of her children and the memories that went with them. Now, in her condition, she was reduced to creating children artificially in tubes if she wanted them. It would be better and less risky to do it the natural way. But she was undead. Oggaroth heard her unspoken thoughts and spoke.

"I once gave a gift to Thrax's first wife. She was a vampire, and I granted her the ability to carry children and give birth."

"You did? Would you grant me that ability, as well?" Ceinwyn asked, truly curious. Her hand unconsciously touched her abdomen as she stood awaiting his response.

"I did, and I will do the same for you. A gesture of gratitude for the loyalty you have shown me all this time."

Ceinwyn nodded as The Voice departed. Her gaze fell on the body lying on the laboratory table beside her. Thrax's new body. Crafted from blood he had given her before the demon had been removed from his soul. Though she hadn't expected anything in return for restoring Thrax to life, she was now doubly glad she had done so.

Ceinwyn's bedroom, the present...

Ceinwyn jumped up from restless sleep, the dream still lingered in her mind. The same dream she had been having for weeks now was growing more vivid every night.

This dream always had the same story. Each night she progressed a bit further in the dream. She awoke from each one curious. She would always place a hand to her swelling abdomen and wonder what the true source of the dream was.

The first conclusion she always reached was that the dream was a warning that she should not continue the pregnancy. Ruefully, though, she felt that she did not have enough karma earned in life to warrant such a fortuitous and helpful warning. This had led her to a suspicion that someone was trying to tell her something.

She was losing sleep trying to figure it all out. That and she had been curious to see what would happen next in the dream. Tonight, she had gotten a bit further and had something resembling the beginning of an answer.

She had seen a face.
