Phyrra, Admoreth, and myself have been working on what it is these threads mean. Phyrra was the one who figured out you could double click them and get messages. After myself and Adrien could not get messages from clicking, and from some feedback on Stratics, it was determined that only people with Spirit Speak can use the threads.

We have compiled a list of messages from the threads. Please add on to this list if you find something new.

Thread of Life wrote:

"You begin working."

"You face a dark wood with two paths, and finally choose the one you wish to travel."

"You make a new friend."

"For a fleeting moment you walk along the edge of a dream, sharing in the experience."

"A jumble of thoughts tumble chaotically through, but at last the confusion passes."

"For a brief moment you are able to believe something as someone else does, yet it doesn't last."

"You have a child."

"You are born."

"You take a moment to reflect upon the past, and find it leads you to a solution for the present"

"You protect something"

"You are imprisoned."

"You fight."

"You marry."

"You're faced by an unfamiliar problem, but experience has given you the tools to forge ahead."

"Vivid images fill your mind, and unfamilar thoughts struggle to give them meaning"

"Clarity leads you to an insightful thought, and you find yourself pleased with your rationale."

"You die"

"The sights, smells and sounds are long gone, but you can still feel them as though it just happened."

"You're blinded by bursts of color, and reality seems to bend around you."

"You find a lover."

Thread of Fate wrote:

"Passion dances with lust, you know what you want."

"The coldness bursts into flame: for a moment your hatred knows no bounds."

"For one pure moment absolute joy overwhelms you; you've never felt happier."

"Regret and remorse fall away at long last: you feel forgiven"

"Feelings of warmth and appreciation wash over you: you've gained something."

"Despair and sorrow sink to the depths of your soul: a precious thing was lost."

"Peace comforts you; the hand of fate gives way to your hope."

"Indescribable feelings flow through you; your love is returned by another.."

"A feeling of euphoria envelopes you: something new, something wonderful, something undiscovered!"

We believe that these threads, "woven together," make a story (and, perhaps later on, some kind of item). I have also been looking at all of these, and trying to apply a principle or virtue to each one. For instance, "You marry," love, and "You fight," courage.

NOTES:
Sutek knew the Shadowlords personally, before they became "The Shadowlords." Sutek was on the ship that brought the Shadowlords to the underworld.

Sutek was the man who found the bloodied body after we were all teleported back to normal Moonglow.

My theory:

The threads are bits and pieces of the life and/or emotions of one or more of the Shadowlords....from some of them though it sounds somewhat female.

Yes I know...what I meant was that perhaps it was only her thoughts and emotions.

Some people are claiming it only working if you have spirit speak.. Which would make sense in a way.. Spirit speak is the ability to speak to the dead, and having that ability could make it possible to use these threads to understand the messages the Shadowlords are sending.

Also, I was thinking that some of the Life messages could just be an overall life thing. You marry. You have a child. Etc.. These are things that typically happen, but not sure.. It was something I thought of late last night.

I'm starting to think that only the threads of fate apply to the history of the shadowlords overall.

As for the threads of life.... wtf.

After reading over these messages and using my skills in investigation, I believe these messages might have a cause and effect pattern. For instance, the first message could be seen as the cause of the later message would be the effect. These causes and effects can be what made the Shadowlords what they are today.

...Just my theory on it

Here is a wonderful story I tell in Umbra once every couple months. It is the tale of how the shadowlords were created in Ultima.

Very very worth the read... awesome story.

Actually, As I'm reading through the messages listed by Vaen. I COMPLETELY agree with Azunda. I remember the story of Captain Johne, Sutek, and the shadow lords pretty clearly and these things all come to mind....

1)
Quote:
"The coldness bursts into flame: for a moment your hatred knows no bounds."

-The scene from the story in which the captain (who has been sickly, weak, and dying for a great deal of time previously) goes into a fit of rage and slays his friends with crystal shards.

2)
Quote:
"Regret and remorse fall away at long last: you feel forgiven"

-The captain, having murdered his friends and realizing what he had done, was sick with guilt and self hatred. He wanted to die. It stretched on for what felt to him like an eternity until Sutek came back - and forgave him.

3)
Quote:
"Despair and sorrow sink to the depths of your soul: a precious thing was lost."

-To me this could be..either after the captain has killed his friends and he realizes what hes done. Or, more simply, when they are all still alive and he begins to feel his love hath fallen for the bard instead of him.

4)
Quote:
"Indescribable feelings flow through you; your love is returned by another.."

-Again I could see it two ways. Either..After he's been miserable and starts holding and safekeeping the shards, I seem to remember him getting a bit strange. OR. Perhaps when he's with his love as she seems to make him quite happy in many times through the story.

5.
Quote:
"Peace comforts you; the hand of fate gives way to your hope."

Makes me think of the end of the story when the captain and Sutek come to an agreement, that one will go back to Britannia to prepare and protect the people from the shadowlords.

It seems to me, that while there may be some variation in thought and I didn't pinpoint every one - These are all almost direct references to instances surrounding the story of the shadowlords. So - in short, support for Azundas theory.

Not sure where I stand on the threads of life..

Edit:

If Azunda's thoughts / my thoughts are correct...It would be interesting to see if Vaen is not also correct himself. However this would mean that piecing the story together would be to decipher which lines indicate what part of the Actual shadowlord story..making it much easier to 'weave' them together.

If that's the case, we could piece it together ourselves. Vaen linked to the story in his first post.

We just need to get all the threads of fate.

A thought... if it is a story, maybe you have to use them in order?

I just got this thread of life, I haven't seen it posted yet:

"Clarity leads you to an insightful thought, and you find yourself pleased with your rationale."
