Once more Merci flipped thru the pages of the thick and tedious book. None of it made sense to her but what she searched for was in the tome somewhere. She heard a rustle behind her and wiithout turning from her studies she spoke. Good eve Reine. She looked up at the girl as she stood just a bit from her, her wings slightly spread. Something was on her mind this eve.

Matriarch, Myrddin has allowed me to attend the events of the regular army, I have proven myself worthy. She was stiff and emotionless, her face holding no hint of what emotion was beneath the surface but her wings moved expressively to the Matriarch's discerning eye she knew that her daughter was quite happy about this.

A curt nod in her direction then she looked back down at her book. Perhaps I was wrong Reine, perhaps one day you will manage to compare to my other children. The words were cruel and hit their mark. Merci wanted the pressure put upon Reine to test the limits of her mind to make sure that it was indeed sure and strong.

An angry rustle of the wings followed and her face slipped for a moment but Reine lowered her head. I shall strive Matriarch. Merci closed the book and rose turning tall and lean staring at her daughter the hard edge of many battles in the Matriarch's eyes. Child if all you can do is strive then you will die. I expect you to perform. So far you have not dissapointed me, make sure it remains so. Merci noticed that she was only a bit taller than her now and the wings upon Reines back had matured a bit. There were qualities about Reine that reminded her of her own self but, Merci still feared there may be weakness in her. She would wait, she would see, soon Reine would be put to the test, and how would she fare....

That was a question yet unanswered.... but soon
