I just wanted to warn everyone about a fellow who is somewhat already known on Atlantic for scamming.
The Person's ICQ name is Jason Summers his icq is 305279978.
I highly suggest you make a section on your icq for hackers/scammers and such and keep this name in it, so that you never accidentally take a file from him.
His name was passed around once before, about a year ago, for impersonating guild leaders in the community. He would get various guild's members to believe he was their GM only on an alternate character, at a friend's house, etc. He would get their icq and use it to send them a file.. which would of course be a trojan. He did it to RK, he tried it with the winterhaven museum people, he even tried to do it with various Umbran members.
His newest thing seems to be just icq people and sending them an easy uo script. A friend of mine opened it and realized too late it was a hacker. He discon from the internet manually, removing the cable, and when he logged back in, his whole suit was gone, as well as his runebooks. |

I dunno. I think Avature might have gotten hit with this. He ICQ'ed me earlier saying he lost his suit to a guy due to EasyUO.
In a special note, Josh, ICQ me. I got an EasyUO script for you... _________________ Through all else, let Honesty lead you! |

I dunno dude, but I have some old exceptional runebooks. More of a memento of old friends who made them than anything else. Avature told me about his incident also. My friend was hit literally within minutes of it. |

It's good practice to never accept files over ICQ. I hada guy who was selling a house try to send me screenshots in it because he couldn't get ig at the time. Never knew if it was a hack or not but i'm sure it was, since he never tried to sell it to me after I rejected his files.
Just make a habit of not accepting files over ICQ. _________________

I think Avature's situation was a bit different but he icq'd me when I was out. From what was explained to me, his situation occured in Fel, where he was attacked and looted. This included blessed and insured items. Needless to say, I have little info to go on so I am not entirely sure as to the whole situation. We did offer to help him replace items, but he is very upset. _________________ "The ability to speak does not make you intelligent."

Avature was indeed in fel, but he claims it was an easy uo script. He also says he knew the person.
Adranath is the one I mentioned being hacked. He lost blessed items as well as insured. And yes, runebooks as well. He broke back in before they got his shroud.
The whole incident happened in less than a minute. I sat here and watched it. I honestly don't know if the stuff was simply deleted or moved to somewhere else. But it didn't take long at all, practically the blink of an eye. It also turned out to be someone who knew a friend of Adranath.

Simple fix for this, don't use illegal 3rd party programs.
And if you absolutely have to, learn the scripting language, or even just how to read scripts, so when you download a script, you can see the lines where it essentially drops all your gear on the ground and causes all your stuff to be lost, it's not hard to see a line like that in the code if you read what you download.
Also, as everyone said, don't accept any type of file over ICQ unless you trust that person, scripts can do a variety of things, a very surprising amount.
What that particular script probably does is drop all gear when a word is spoken, which is probably why the runebooks fell, since it essentially clears out your backpack and paperdoll. It looks for the word to appear on the screen, and when it appears, the script drops the gear on the ground, while the person who speaks the activation word uses a script to loot the falling items.
It was used on members of the PvP community a few months back, and I imagine this fellow somehow got a hold of it and decided to try his luck on other groups of players. _________________ "There are those who dream to escape reality, and there are those who dream to change it." |

That's exactly what happened, Halister. Adra read the code afterwards and saw that line. It dropped his junk on the ground. The thief was standing close by, named Peyton. Also some alt chars are Face to Face and Leif.
I'm glad I don't use EUO. |

Halister hit the nail on the head. You can make scripts look utterly convincing and just have the naughty lines in a sub 3/4 of the way down the script that does the deed.
Meh. |

That was one of the names Avature gave me. But, Vaen, it's pretty famous name. LOL. A viking name. |
