So, turns out there is a lot of RP and UO-sanctioned history out there. Where can I go to read up on it? A lot of it is really interesting and I'd love to learn about it. I just have no idea where to look! _________________ I have no idea what you are talking about.

The Wiki of course!
http://www.atlanticcommunityboard.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page
In the Historical and Stories sections there is a great deal of Atlantic Roleplay community specific history and general UO history.
The BNN articles section has the history of game-wide events that happened on Atlantic (non RP community specific) if you want to read up on the official lore as well.
Anything else would be cataloged in the Crossroads Tavern on these forums, although reading through 8000 posts can be hectic. _________________ "There are those who dream to escape reality, and there are those who dream to change it." |

Indeed, I have noticed myself that many of the newer roleplayers have not the exposure to history that some of us had when we were new. Entire ages have been forgotten it seems... Which is not entirely bad. Those of us who have been forgotten shall be remembered once more.
*cough*
I've been wanting to sound ominous for a while now.
When I first came back on Zach I noticed that a lot of people he spoke with didn't know the history he's especially tied to-- They didn't know about Dagger Isle, nor the Order and Oblivion's followers. If Zach thinks your character will listen, he'll teach your character about what he knows about the old ways. Sadly, it seems like all of the libraries that contain all of the OES lore are private, so I can't direct people anywhere. |

Beo, Darrien and I are working on that, I won't say anything more though since I don't know all the details or have a timeframe. [/eagames] _________________ "There are those who dream to escape reality, and there are those who dream to change it." |

That's still a more accurate answer than a dev answer, if you really wanted to EAgames you would go "We are aware of the problem." :/
I'm glad that a good public library is being worked on, though! |

What's Wintermoore and Caina? I might want to do some RP stuff, like Gorgnak (or whatever his name is, no offence if you're reading this) suggested and do some digging up of artifacts from a time long gone.
I could see that being fun, but I'd need to know what I might find. _________________ I have no idea what you are talking about.

Wintermoor and Caina were the two cities that vied for control over Ice Isle/Dagger Isle. I believe Xanthar held control over Wintermoore, I am told in a very autocratic style. I never knew much about that city, as I interacted with it towards the end of its existence. They lived in a sort of uneasy peace with the Order of the Ebon Skill (OES) who lived in Caina, originally under the rule of Azalin the Lichlord. Caina was the original homeland of the OES, and has been one of Atlantic's most prolific and oldest incarnations of "evil". Caina was the hub of necromantic activity (Loooooooong before Age of Shadows ever came out), outside of the Trinsic Fens (where the Cult of Infernal Necromancy lives). Caina has been the capital of the ancient OES (original) and The Shadowform Empire, and a few other minor cults/incarnations of the old OES.
Wintermoor was located along the southern shore of Dagger Isle, and was considered a place of learning and enlightenment. While I am not certain it could compete with the Atlantic Mage Tower for its affects on the community, it was still a very active place that was once a full player run town. One of its biggest achievements was a player-run museum that was stacked with artifacts from UO's history, back when the GM's actually gave a damn about the game.
Caina was located on the northern coast of Dagger Isle and was considered, again, the hub of necromancy and the home of the most dangerous elements of the early ARPC. Caina, also a player run city, had everything from mass dungeon/execution sites, to whole libraries filled with information catalogueing monsters (and their weaknesses) as well as spells and the histories of the enemies of the OES. The Black Mass was a very well known occurence, where the OES would commune with Oblivion, usually by slaughtering prisoners and doing their best to cause absolute havoc.
Seeing as both cities were essentially abandoned, there is no reason why you wouldn't be able to dig around for ancient elements of the past and bring them forward. Might make for some interesting RP. I am aware that Caina was RPly put to rest when one of the newer incarnations of OES had some ritual cursing the place or the like, before moving elsewhere (I think to Umbra, but there may have been a spot before that). Wintermoor never got "laid to rest" in any RP fashion that I am aware of, so it should be considered little more than a ghost-town. _________________ Femmies?! HOWAH!

Wintermoor was a city based off the southern end of Ice Island Felucca, it was home to the Wintermoor Museums (both are still there - albeit empty after a series of extremely bad events).
The city was founded by Xanthar and the Order of the Silver Dragons, one of Atlantic's largest guilds at that time. In the early years the city functioned much like most early player run cities, while later in it's life, the city aligned itself with the Council of Mages.
On an OOC note, the city was dismantled when Xanthar (who owned 90% of the buildings on over 50 accounts) quit and demolished it to place castles and keeps, which were then sold. The only two original structures that remain are the two museum towers on the far southern end.
As far as unearthing ancient relics, the area around Caina would be far more interesting due to the sheer amount of RP that happened there. _________________ "There are those who dream to escape reality, and there are those who dream to change it." |

Wow! I wish real history was as exciting as this stuff! Well, as soon as the person whos house I'm trying to buy ICQs me back, I'll move up there. *shakes fist* By the way, the house is in Feluccia.
At that point, If it's okay, I'd love to talk to you two (who seem to know a lot about this place) about what I could expect to find. Or anyone else who knows about them, as well. _________________ I have no idea what you are talking about.

You won't find anything uber powerful in Caina, I already asked about that regarding Zach trying to find bits of his heritage. But you might find small bits and pieces of things, I suggest contacting Azunda, Darrien, or myself if you have any questions as to what she might find (Preferably Azunda or Darrien, they're actually guild leaders). It would be cool to do some sort of plot about it :o |

At one time the Heralds of the Awakening had a couple of buildings there that were burned down by the Skullies as we called them. You could look for artifacts left from the burning of the buildings there if you like. I can tell you a bit about them. There was a hospice (hospital) and a Church there. We were there trying to convert some of the slaves and save them from 'a fate worse than death' as we said it back then. *grins* _________________ Grand Duchess Molly Kaldhel

I would be the Darrien of whom Norture speaks. If you'd like to research the history of Caina notify me, I have several hundred books, most of them from Caina's once grand Scholomance, for public use.
The house itself is private though, but I would be happy to grant anyone and everyone here access.
A greater library of about 1600 Role-Play books is being worked on by Halister, Beo and myself, all we require is an adequate location. More details will follow. |
