Audrina looked down to the bracelet unsure if the time was right to put it on. Her eyes darted down once more to the open book beside the bracelet as she carefully reread the instructions.

Place the doll on the child. Place the bracelet of Stolen Sight and Hearing upon thy arm. Slowly your vision will grow dim. All around you will become dark and quiet and with patience that which is around your child (the doll) will come into view. When you remove the bracelet it shall take some time for your hearing and sight to be restored. It may take minutes, it may take hours. The more you use it the longer it takes to return.

Her eyes focused on the last sentence for a while.

Be cautious with it…

She had possession of the bracelet for more than a month now, but each time she read the last line of the instructions she convinced herself that the time to use the bracelet was not now. She stood up and walked across the room to the doors of her bedroom. With a turn of the key she insured each door locked. She returned back to her vanity and sat down.

Slamming the book shut she took the bracelet in her hand and hesitantly slid it onto her wrist.

Darkness. Complete silence. She could feel her hand resting on the bracelet, but she could slowly feel her senses leaving her. Panic began to come over her as the darkness continued.

Slowly her vision blurred and she could hear voices, but she could not fully make out any faces or voices. Her panic subsided as the faces and voices began to come into focus. She smelled something burning, but she saw no fire. Instead she saw a face that surprised her, Davaran.

The doll clearly hung on Braelyn’s waist sideways, as her vision was not exactly focused as if she were looking out of the eyes of her daughter. She could hear a familiar voice in the background. ”What is wrong with you? You just tried to light me on fire!”

Quickly the scene spun and Vaen Swiftar came into focus as well as a woman standing next to him. She could hear her daughters voice, ”You deserved it, liar.” Braelyn cackled and once again the scene spun back towards Davaran.

Panic set in once more. How long had it been since she placed the bracelet on her wrist?

She tried to focus. She could hear Davaran, ”I know your Mommy.”

Her desire to find out why Davaran was there was overcome by her sense of panic. She faintly felt her fingers touching the bracelet and she pulled it off.

Darkness. Silence.

Be cautious with it…

It was impossible to tell how long it took for her own vision and hearing to return, but she knew it felt like hours. She looked around her empty bedroom in a panic, half expecting to find herself surrounded by brigands, the other half expecting to see Beowulf.

She set the bracelet back in its box, placing with it the instruction book. She could imagine how amused Nightshade would have been had she been able to witness Audrina’s first experience with the bracelet. She felt exhausted and disoriented and decided the best thing she could do was rest.
