Copies of the following report were sent to all members of the Regency Council:
"Noble Lords and Ladies of the Court,
My being assigned to foreign affairs leads me to make this report to you. It is in regards to a pamphlet that has been distributed, wherein someone has transcribed our words from the last meeting of the Regency. As it concerns us all, I felt it appropriate to bring it to your attention. I shall bring the pamphlet itself to our meeting tonight.
As you may recall, before I arrived, I had hired a reliable and capable man to search the room carefully using the spell of revealing since the guards, as always, do a thorough search for anyone who might be hiding behind or under furniture. You are aware, as is everyone, that the spell of Invisibility only lasts a short duration, so no one using it could remain hidden for long. How this person or person was able to write down our conversation, and at the same time evade detection, in a room having only one large table, chairs, and a few suits of armor, defies reality.
I offer the following as possibilities for this occurrance and refute each:
1. Someone was using invisibility jewelry. Possible, but not probable as the charges expend very quickly one upon the other and the reveal spell would quickly do just that to them.
2. There was a ghost in the room with us. Unlikely, unless this "Protectorate" is utilizing necromancy into their service. Still, last time I checked, material items such as pen, parchment, and ink are not useable by non-material beings.
3. Spies were hiding under the table. It is a large table, but, as stated, the guards are not so lax as to forget to make sure no such persons, potential assassins the worst, are hiding under it before we begin our meeting. And although I thought I heard a mousy sneeze, I think we can safely assume no one was hiding there.
4. Oggaroth told them. This is absurd. He had no motive to give them the courtesy of a word by word transcription of our conversations, nor would anyone in their right mind take stock in anything he said (unless it is a threat which he does make good on). He was talking to us and not writing at the time. His ability to evade detection is not magic based, but is due to his inherent, godlike, powers, so that is why his presence went undetected.
5. The spy or spies were hiding in suits of armor. To do so and remain absolutely motionless for hours is to be commended, if so. (In that case we should turn our eyes to Tokuno and their ninjas!) But the guards examine the armor, and none of it moved or creaked, so transcription such as the pamphlet describes would have been impossible.
Seeing that none of the above possibilities are plausible in the least, I can only venture that one or more of them---the spies or the Governor-Regent---are quite omniscient or else have very large ears. Thus, from now on, let us not concern ourselves about what we say wherever we may be, for it will not matter---they can invisibly transcribe any spoken word and remain entirely undetected in the process. Such feats are a marvel indeed, are they not?
I will speak to you all more on this matter at our meeting tonight. I bid you all good health and prosperity.
Oh, and bring your "quiet voice," though whispering may or may not help against such godlike powers.
Thraxanduril
Baron of Thraxstadt
Minister of Foreign Affairs
Regency Council"
