Thomas sits in the tavern, trying to decide what to do. He is waiting on responses from Adrian and the Empress, and he fears what he has learned might have grave consequences to those he cares about. He is anxious to meet with them about this.
Thomas pulls out his journal, and begins to write.
Journal Entry - Truths
1. For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.
2. Nothing real can be threatened. Nothing unreal exists.
3. Vengeance is not the point; change is. But the trouble is that in most [people's] minds the thought of victory and the thought of punishing the enemy coincide.
4. I never wonder to see men wicked, but I often wonder to see them not ashamed.
5. Sincerity and truth are the basis of every virtue
