She awoke in the new home. Her stomach rumbled with a hunger she knew could only be sated with warm fresh meat. She lifted her head listening....her children were not near. Nor was the quiet one. Slowly she raised herself and shook her head to shake off the last vestiges of sleep.
Her eyes surveyed the room and she saw the open door. Making her way to it she stepped out into the open. Her nose raised she sniffed.....scents drifted to her. She could smell them... she ran through the woods until she reached the side of a road. Making sure not to be seen...she followed the trees south. She saw their tents, and crouched low to the ground. Ever so slowly and quietly she crept forward. The taller grasses keeping her from being seen. Still a distance from the tents, she saw them. There were two of them.
Unable to control her hunger any longer she lunged from her stance. Her maw closing on the rogue's neck, allowing blood to freely spray over her fur. Her head turned, taking with it flesh in her teeth as the other rushed to aid his comrade. She turned and bared her bloodied teeth at him as she let out a low throaty growl. His eyes widened as she came at him. His mouth opened...too late for anything other than a gurgling noise to escape his lips. Her teeth ripped at his neck. She hungrily lapped up the warm blood, then dragged his body to the shelter of the trees. She feasted upon him, savoring each piece she ripped from bone. His blank stare gazing upward bothered her none. Slowly her hunger began to abate. She lay content in the grasses licking the blood from her paws.
She rested but a moment before creeping back into the woods to head south yet again. She saw the white building with people around it. No one noticed her, and this was how she liked it. She passed them with not a glance in her direction and continued east. The land was darker and more familiar. Death...it was sensed all around. Familiarity was strong here, but her mind would not give in to allow her to know why.
She allowed her feet to keep moving her, staying far from view of any. She sniffed at the black gate that appeared in the middle of the city. She knew it was safe and stepped through.
Several lands were travelled. Her mind logged everything she saw. The men in blue...the creature with horns...the blossoms and spring water that made her choke from its acrid taste...the city in ruins...all were observed. For now she would continue to observe. No one would notice her, and her kills were kept hidden from watchful eyes. She was awakening again and rediscovering what she knew her mind had kept hidden for so long. _________________ Shifters of Sosaria |
