The thin beams of yellow hued light casually glided through the cold, dry air. The beams reflected off the already bright snow, seeming to illuminate the dark caverns. A sudden gasp for air echoed through the dark halls as a torn and tattered leather gloved hand ripped up through the snow.
Weak and powerless, the dazed Korbin gathered the energy he could to pull himself from the icy banks. Every moment was a struggle, every moment was a desire for something more. As he finally pulled himself from the bank, he could not find the energy to rise. He glanced around the cold caves with his grayish blue eyes; with them somehow lighting the caves a bit more.
Wh... what had happened?
An influx of thoughts raced through his mind, and he winced as he felt a strong pain in his head. The memories were just as broken as he was. All he could recall was his journey to these icy lands, and no more.
What had I come for?
Digging his hands deeper in the snow for support, he pulled himself up slowly. Aching still, he bent over lightly. Howls of wolves echoed through the caves, and he winced once more.
Moonglow... yes, I had come from there. Trevyn, the boat ... the sailor ... where had he gone?
His eyes curiously yet cautiously peered through the narrow halls. He could smell and feel the strong presence of the Dead. Bones covered the silkish snow beneath his feet.
Close your eyes, Korbin ... ignore these feelings.

Emerging from the dark, icy caverns, Korbin pulled his lowered mempo over his face. The sun was high, though the breeze was strong. "Mid-day," he murmured to himself. In the distance, the very sight of shore triggered a faint smile to crease his lips - regarldess, he knew, his journey off this damned island would be tedious.
He drew his silver blade, glimmering in the sun's rays, and prepared to unravel his tale. |
