Cecilia tossed and turned in her bed, trying to rid her mind of the millions of thoughts running through them…
“RUN CECILIA… RUN”
She kept hearing Miss Ivory yelling at her to run away. What had she been thinking anyhow? She was no knight of the kingdom... would she ever be a knight of the kingdom? She tossed back over to the other side, pulling the covers closer around her.
She had been standing on the roof of the M’real manor with her mother and Aunt Gwyn and her uncles Marcus and Malic when she heard Miss Ivory screaming from Hanse’s from help. Assuming it was one of the pesky vampire bats and wanting to show her mother what she could now do, Cecilia ran down the stairs and grabbed her warfork and shield as she ran out the door and up the road to Hanses. When she arrived she saw Miss Ivory scrambling to get away, not from a vampire bat, but from a cloaked figure that easily stood as tall as her father and uncles, if not taller. Before she could even think she ran to Miss Ivory and asked if she was okay. Miss Ivory hearing Cecilia’s voice suddenly screamed towards her “Cecilia… RUN!”. Cecilia knew that she should be scared, but deep inside her something made her instead move forward and place her petite frame between that of the figure and Miss Ivory. “I can’t run Miss Ivory… I am an M’real…” she said as calmly as she could muster, and prayed to the virtues that the figure did not hear her heart pounding. The figure glowered down at her and practically hissed… “you do not know what you are doing… you do not know who I am…” Cecilia looked over her shoulder and saw her uncles quickly approaching and she summoned every ounce of courage she had and straightened up as tall as she could and said back to the figure… “ you do not know who ‘I’ am…”. With that she said the spell she had been taught to consecrate her weapon and lifted it higher up, not backing away from the figure. By then her uncles had reached them and Malic mentioned the name of Oggoroth, which meant nothing to Cecilia at the time. As soon as Marcus reached them the figure cast a gate and as quickly as he had appeared he was gone. Cecilia then noticed her arm and knees were shaking, and hoped that neither of her uncles noticed… She turned and made sure that Miss Ivory was okay and watched Uncle Malic escort her home before returning to the manor to finish speaking with her mother.
After they had finished speaking Aunt Gwyn showed Penny to a room and Cecilia made her way to her room where she undressed and laid her sword and shield at the foot of her bed.
She was physically exhausted, but mentally she was still quite awake. She lay there for hours, every noise in the manor seemed louder than before, and she wondered if sleep would ever take her. She sighed and turned again, the last thought on her mind was telling Niall about the adventure she had had that evening and how she knew now that she truly was an M’real and that her place was protecting those she loved and cared about. |
