Lomar was thoroughly confused, and even more exasperated. His prayers and sacrifices to Oggaroth went unanswered. Not even the slightest word through vision, dream, messenger, or ethereal epiphany, had reached him. Something has gone wrong! I must find out what it is!
He set out for Umbra to find his friend and ally Cear Dallben.
* * * * *
Oggaroth basked in the glow of the carnage he had wrought by the hand of Spawn. This is even better than before!
The mortal, empowered by a god, was a whirlwind of death and destruction, thus far completely unfettered or hampered by any government or power in the realms. A wolf among the lambs! All the while the shepherds feud among themselves!
He did not care yet to contact Lomar to explain what had occurred as a result of the spell of unbinding. That would be too much trouble and would take up time he needed to kill, loot, burn, and destroy. That can wait. I am enjoying this too much to stop now!
Spawn, his eyes ablaze with unholy fire, gazed down the road to the town beyond. He drew his katana and walked on, picking up his pace. |

It did not take long for Lomar to find Cear in Umbra. Concealed in his own hooded robe, he eventually spotted the black-skull helmeted man in dark robes and went up to him. "Cear Dallben," he saluted.
A bit startled, Cear looked at him. "Yes? That's me."
"I have been looking for you," he said as he removed the hooded robe, revealing his own black bone helmet and armor.
"Lomar! Glad to see you!"
"I wish to talk privately with you."
Cear nodded. "Come with me," he said as he led the way to the top floor of the Umbra bank. There they stood, facing each other. "What do you want to talk to me about?"
"The spell of unbinding... did anything untoward happen to you or your aide later after casting it?"
"No, me and Dargothien are both fine. What's the matter?"
"I have had no contact with my god since that time. He has not answered my prayers, or been seen by me through vision, dream or ghostly apparition. I sense that something has gone terribly wrong. I tend to believe he never left this plane and may be wandering about it like a shade. It occurred to me to look for Spawn who was his avatar. Have you heard anything of him lately?"
"No, nothing about him." The Cabalist thought for a moment. "I was in New Haven recently and observed a some wraiths there. They might be able to provide some information."
"I can speak with the dead well enough."
"Good. Then I suggest you go there and look for them. Maybe they know something that will help you," he suggested.
Lomar thanked him and departed for New Haven. He assumed the form of a wraith and searched for the same. Finding none, and in desperation, he recalled to the home of Spawn. The way was open and unwarded, so he went in and began a search.
On the topmost floor he spied a green-robed man standing, facing south. He resumed human form and called out to him, "Who are you?"
"You have found me, Eye," came the reply.
"You know me?! Who are you?"
The figure removed the hood and robe, revealing a man in dark armor. The eyes blazed with fiendish light. "Oggaroth," he stated.
"Master!!! Is it you?!! How...?"
"I have returned. Spawn's will was broken by those who rejected him. He invited me in and now I am in control once more."
Lomar (Eye) bowed low, making obeisance. "All praise be to you, Master!"
Oggaroth spoke to him of his plans for revenge and gave him orders to fulfill, ending the conversation with a malign boast. "My reign of terror has begun! All Light bearers shall face my wrath, and perish utterly!"
Lomar was thrilled beyond words. He hurried off to do his Master's bidding. All his frustrations were at an end and were quickly forgotten.
Now the fun begins!! |
