Pol awoke with a start, the room taking on a sudden chill. She looked and saw a sight cold enough to take her breath away, “No, “ she hissed, “this can not be!”
Beside her bed stood a shade, an apparition of the man she loved.
“Fear not darling, tis I, Thomas. I have come to tell you that I will be coming home, my body doth lie in a ditch along the side of the road leading out of Cove. Be a dear, and send our friend King along to find it, and bring me home before it is set upon by wild beasts. Between the two of you, I am confident that you will breathe life back into my corpse once again.”
“At once dear, you old fool. What happened?” Pol said as she rang her bell for her maid to appear to fetch a messenger.
“You were right dear one, it was foolish to think that times have changed and that there might be a place in the world of men for one seeking truth. I was slain by hypocrisy run amok, a viper in the guise of nobility. I still have a message to share, but only hypocrites need fear it. My message is not meant to incite anger but to promote thought. It is best to keep the message to myself, and to let others discover this truth for themselves.
Be aware, Hypocrisy seeks to stamp out truth, for it is in the light of truth that the evil of Hypocrisy is revealed. Hypocrisy will fight tooth and nail to stamp out or cover up the truth. Its poison will spread from host to host until it accomplishes it’s evil task. There can be no peace as long as Hypocrisy governs or reigns free.
My message is simple, you might be able to kill the messenger, but you can never kill the truth. You can deny it, vehemently point out the perceived evils of the messenger, and attempt to cover up the Truth, but you can never truly bury it. It may take time, but the truth shall reveal itself. Hypocrisy’s greatest fear is that the truth of their evil be discovered, and will lash out at any that might threaten their image of piety.
Mark me not as a martyr, for like the truth, I am not truly dead. I will not wander any further into the world, as Truth is not easily found nor tolerated by evil. Until such time as the world fears not truth and hypocrisy is shunned by the good people that exist, it is better for me to focus on us, and my studies in isolation from the evils that rule this world. In time evil will feed upon itself, after there are no more victims for it to consume other than itself. It is necessary only for the good man to do nothing for evil to triumph.” |

"M'Lady Pol, " King yells from outside the cottage "we have recovered his body from the road to cove as you asked. "
Pol runs to the door and throws it open, "Bring in the old fool. I told him this was going to happen."
"M'Lady, I have tried to bring his soul back to his body. My paladin skill has never failed me before, but it seems that he refuses to return to us. "
"Dear friend, do not fret, this old man is not getting away from me or his reponsibility so easily. We will bring him back if we have to reach through the veil and grab him by parts he would prefer we be gentle with. " Pol says, as she prepares to start work on the old wolf. |
