The Queen stood in the throne room looking across the large meeting table, how times had evolved. Piles of papers were there for her to sign and she could only look at them, her thoughts on recent events. Her husband's words at the last Regency meeting still rang strong and true. He wished those in his cabinet to think on what they felt their title and duties were, and even though she had held hers for some time she endorsed this request with sincerity. With grace, she sat and moved the papers aside to pull forth a fresh sheet of papyrus and with quill in her delicate hand she wrote her thoughts:
Through time I have sat as the Justicar as part of this esteemed body of individuals. It has been and still is my honor to uphold the laws and the Virtues of this land. By holding this office, I have dedicated my life to protecting those with no voice and to do right by the will of Lord British's dream along with the will of the people.
It is often a dire duty to uphold law and maintain justice. There are times those decisions weigh on myself with a heavy heart. It is I who is to pass judgement on those brought before me for this reason, I take my title with great responsibility as my interpretations of law and choices can change the course of another's life. Though this task may not be an easy one, it is fulfilling. As laws are in place to maintain order and keep balance.
However, with progression and as life and culture evolve, so must the law. Change is inevitable and unstoppable. So as times change, so must I and so must some of the laws. Over time, lines have been drawn and others blurred. Sometimes one cannot see in black and white, but in the shades of gray. I feel the structure we have set up is solid and now is the time to rebuild around it. I also understand that with these changes, there will be fear. As many do fear change as it leads to the unknown. Yet, if there is faith in virtue, there should also be faith in the law. As I have pledged and devoted myself to such.
I intend to maintain integrity in my office. I hold Justice as my most esteemed Virtue, it is one I feel has become an integral part of my life. Over time, it has also become my life's work. I will continue to serve the Regent as I have in the past, to the present and even into the future in this way. My heart and my soul are bound by this virtue to prevail over injustice, to find the light within the dark and to maintain the order that the people need to live their lives as free and secure citizens of the lands we protect...
She sat back in the chair looking over her words and smiled, this new chapter of the Regency would indeed open new things, some good, some bad but regardless she would still seek out the truth in justice as her office demanded. _________________ "The ability to speak does not make you intelligent."
