Drayden sat that night, after his reconaissance work was done near Dark Cove. He watched Vaen dress in the garb of the dead that night. Watched him serve undeath. The drow had fought Swiftar that night. His old guildmaster marching with the enemy, as the rest of the fallen Legion of Justice now did. Except for Drayden....

It was late when he sat and penned a letter to his old Mentor. One he hoped to at least explain things to without being told he lied. Why would he lie so whole heartedly?

Vaen:

I wish I could begin to explain this to you. Your home has changed, yes. But those within the Dark Order have changed as well. I served with you in battle many times. You taught me much of what I know. We were family Vaen Swiftar. It is with these sentiments that I write this letter.

This started not two months ago. Eldan began assembling his Militia. For the defense of the north. He is a native of the Northland, he is lawful and just. He does not rule any of these lands. He fights for their freedom, as everyone else does. For most of my life I have remained neutral in such affairs. But not one month ago, the very Order you serve simply moved into Vesper and have been spreading Oblivion to all those who join. To your very people that live in the homeland you do. The Lich Lord rules the Order Vaen. Not Tarothin. This was spoken from many mouths including the Lich himself as he stood on the doorstep of your own home town.

Isk, and his Humanis ideas march with this Dark order. If they are sucessful they will have ALL non Humans exterminated or detained. I cannot watch that happen. I will not watch that happen.

I live close to here. Or lived. I will not associate myself with the undead. I will not serve them. As Alessandra and Mave have both learned, they joined this Order to fight the Darkness, the Oblivion. Now they are part of the Oblivion. Deaf to any ideas other than what they serve. For months I have been within different company. Listening, watching and learning. This war was brought by the Dark Order Vaen. Despite the lies they fill everyone's head with.

Vesper, nor Minoc ever asked for new law and order. it was forced on them. When they did not comply, they were taxed. Some even killed. Innocents Vaen, they killed a bartender friend, who sought the freedom of Vesper. According to eye witnesses. Mave Gerhart has killed several innocents in Cold blood. The Dark Order draws blood. We fight THEM not the people of Britannia.

I made an attempt to reason with the others. Alessandra, Mave. They have had similar belief, that they could fight the power that they serve. They are wrong Vaen. They are lost to you and I. Those who had ideas of undermining the Order from within now serve as wholly as the Dark Knight himself. Nothing I could do or say would convince Allessandra otherwise. Watch them. Put aside your anger towards me. Watch with that perfect indifference you had before. The neutrality. Listen to the other side that I present to you. Watch Alessandra and Mave, they are different. They have served the Dark Knight since you have left. Their original hope of stopping their rise to power lost and consumed by Oblivion. If you seek proof. Ask the Dark Knight himself what Darrien Church is doing in this Order. Ask him of Oblivion.

I write this now with hope, that you will hear my words. Perhaps your mind is still intact. You are undoing everything you fought for. They will use you and cast you aside. Their dark reign will consume your homeland. The innocents that fight against them will be killed. How can you justify allowing a Lich Lord march through your home? One that sacrifices the very lives you wish protected? He has lied countless times. You fight alongside your enemy....you and the ones I fought for Justice with.

As much as you would like to twist this around. There is not denying who is the aggressor here. This resistance is the direct result of the tyranny that your Order imposes. Expecting those in the realm to simply sit and watch this black tide wash over Brittannia is not an option. We are the leaders of the people. They cannot fight the Dark War machine, so who must rise? We do. The Warden. Myself. Lady of Minoc Gwenaver. We impose no law against these people. We tax no one. We protect them from what you support. We protect them from what they cannot fight. They are farmers and peasants.

Please listen to me.....I beg you as a friend. Never before have I lied to you. My soul is tearing from the sight of ones I considered friends being turned to serve the undead. The one I loved. My mentor and friend....you. I ask you to look at it indifferently, coldly the same way you look at the Militia.

Regards,
Drayden Calamyr

Drayden left the letter with a scout and described Vaen to him, giving instructions for him to deliver it if he was sighted.[/i]

After reading over the letter, Vaen quickly wrote this reply in front of the scout.

Drayden,

You speak from the outside... you speak of what you do not know. Allow me to bring a few things to your attention, so that you may understand them, instead of blindly following what you believe to be true.

1) Yes, perhaps Isk and his Humanis ideas march with the Dark Order. But within the Dark Order are beings of many races. Do you honestly think the Dark Order, and its leader, TAROTHIN, would allow the extermination of all non-humans, when the Dark Order itself has powerful soldiers who are elves? Think, my old friend, before you put thoughts on paper.

2) Your initial reaction to my approaching Minoc was "leave or be killed." Mave, Aless, and Tarothin's initial reaction to joining with them was being welcomed with open arms.

3) Your allies, Sanctus, are rabid dogs, who are only there for a fight. This was proven the other day when I was doing nothing but peacefully talking with the lady of Minoc, and a couple of the Sanctus dogs tried arresting me. The lady pleaded with them to stop, but they paid her no mind.

4) There is no lich that leads the Dark Order. Tarothin leads it. I know this from my own eyes.

5) Yes, perhaps Mave killed some innocents. But that was a direct result of the Militia's actions. Was Mave right? No. But he wasn't the only one in the wrong, and don't you try to play the innocent card here.

6) My mind is intact. Just because one does not align themselves on the side of the vocally righteous, does not mean they are mentally tilted. I know what I am doing.

Perhaps I would have sided with you initially, if I had not been met with "Leave or die" as I stepped foot into my home town. The fact that your eyes saw me as an enemy, rather than a possible ally, shows me that you are not fit to run Minoc.

If anyone is fit to watch over Minoc, it will be me.

You can visit if you want.

Without signing it, he tossed the letter back to the scout, and then made his way outward.

"Send word to the agents to continue their work." He knew it was hopeless. They had made their decision....Brillant assumption that we intend to "rule" anything. We don't want them ruling.. He thought this to himself as his magics burned the paper away in his hand and started back towards the guard tower.

"You will have your valliant fight brave ones. Servants of darkness. Balance will be brought not from your Order, but from chaos burning like wildfire throughout the lands." With a grim nod to a sentry he stepped inside. To make preparations for the upcoming battles.

Perhaps my friends are gone, serving another cause. I will make my own cause...[/i]
