The troops had gathered almost in full that night. And marched forth out of Dark Cove towards Vesper.

Tarothin had a scout near the barricade by the mines. The news that he had received was one that had pleased him greatly. It was very lightly defended. Once he had received the news he gave the word to move out.

They had charged the small barricade. After it was removed, the small amount of defenders that were stationed there were easily dispatched.

He smiled as he charged through the town with many of his troops with him. He wanted to see the fear in their eyes. All hope extinguished as they saw that where once their barricade helped keep us out, now pinned them inside against the onslaught of the Dark Order.

With nothing to protect them, being trapped with no where to run, they fell quickly.

After there seemed to be no more resistance, Tarothin gathered the troops before him.

"You have all fought well." They had only had one person fall this night even though the enemies numbers were just slightly more then themselves. He had no compassion for those that he passed dying or dead. Their families if they still remain will be hunted down and beheaded as he promised. He had reports of ships seen sailing away from Minoc. They can run today, but soon there will be no where to run or hide in the future.

He then issued out many orders such as tearing down the barricade that remains, building fortifications, spreading the word to all still around who they now serve. But told them not to let their guard down and to do it quickly for they will be marching once more as soon as that is complete and secure.

He road back to his keep in Dark Cove, already thinking of what to do next.

Isk's loyalty seems to be true, for he always shows his support without question. They will be rewarded and granted more then just Magincia.

They had won. They now controlled the northern corner up all the way till the grey stone guard house on the road past Dark Cove towards Yew and Britain.

Getting back to his study he quickly marked on a Feluccan map their new territory.

The northern triangle will make a good foundation.

As he looked upon more maps planning the course of action he could smile at the Empire he will form.

For this is just the beginning...

The enemy came in like a flood and swept over the militia scattered northwards of the barricade. They hit the troops manning the barricade from the rear. Somehow, the Dark Order had managed to move their forces from in front of the barricade to the bridge at the northeastern corner of Minoc without the Alliance scouts seeing anything amiss. Gates made this sort of maneuver possible.

At least, in the brief moments left to him, that is what Captain Roger de Clare of the Free Lancers thought as he heard the enemy sweep through the town, killing all in their way.

The barricade defenders turned to face the new front and met the enemy face to face.

The enemy struck them hard, but the Free Lancers managed to beat back the first attack on their position. The enemy regrouped, gathered more troops and crushed all before them in the second assault.

Here and there a few Alliance troops survived a brief while longer, but all either fell or fled. The Minoc militiamen died at their posts almost to a man or woman. A few chose the better part of valor and managed to hide or flee a lost cause, surviving to fight another day.

The Dark Order amassed in the square to hear their leader praise them. He commended them on a job well done.

He ordered them to sweep the city for surviving members of Minoc families, slay them, and pile their heads on the ground.

The piles would be small because most of the city's civilian population had evacuated rather than live under the rule of the Dark Order.

Vaen Swiftar looked over city as the murder of noncombatants began and sighed happily that it was good to be home again.

((Hey now! I never did that. I smiled when we murdered combatants, but not noncombatants.))

The darkness of Oblivion and its desciples rushed over the the town like an oil spill. The defenders knew it was already too late. The defenders could only stand and watch in confusion. How had an entire army moved to the back of Minoc without being seen or heard by anyone? One would think that an entire army would have been heard from miles away. The horses and weopons and armor would have made the coming of an entire army extreamely noticeable. How had an entire army moved to the flank of Minoc without being seen by spotters? One would think that a keen eyed spotter would have seen an entire army move to the east of Minoc.

The brave defenders of Minoc had very little time to ponder these questions as the oil of evil spread evenly over the city. Those that did not flee died instantly and those that fled would most certainly have to battle again the noiseless army of the shadows that they never saw coming.

The harvester evaded death and capture in much the same way that the army of darkness entired the city. He was never seen nor heard as he shook his head and headed out of town to fight another day.
