I'm going to go ahead and assume no one knows who I am, with good reason. I'm pretty new to this whole community, and only just learned about this forum about two days ago. Anyway, because of my newbish nature, there are a few things I flat out don't know. I was told to ask when I had questions, and I have a few Roleplay related questions, so I'm gonna ask.

1. I know piercings exist, obviously, but what about tattoos?

2. When I die and become a ghost, did I really die or did I feint or something?

3. Is your Guild Title a roleplay visible badge? I've gotten mixed answers on this one.

4. Where do all these personal storylines come from? Like with Spawn getting possesed by the rampaging something something from the something system. Are these things planned out ahead of time, or anything? How does that work? It seems everyone has so much more action and excitement and storyline than I do. Sad

5. What if, say, Eric the Villain is seen by Dredd the Judge, punching a baby. Dredd knows baby-punching is illegal in this particualr area and attemptes to arrest Eric. Dredd emotes *Attempts to put handcuffs on Eric*. Now, Eric really enjoys baby-punching and knows they probably won't give him any babies in prison. So, he doesn't want to be arrested, but he also doesn't want to be a bad roleplayer. Can he, by legal means, emote something like *Escapes capture and friggin' runs* without being lame?

6. What's the level of technology? I thought I had it figured out, but then I found a character on my account (which I share with a friend and never check the other characters) had a wrist watch. What's the dealio?

EDIT 7. Not that I'm planning to anytime soon, just curious. How does assassination work? If someone gets assassinated, would they be dead? I guess this is an expansion of question 2.

This is mostly just a comment...
For all the drinking that typically goes on, no one ever gets drunk. I'm at fault too, so I'm not pointing fingers. But I, and I hope others, will try to be better about it. *hopeful smile*

Lastly, what the heck are these emoticons for?

Tatoos exist. The Tribal NPCs have tattoos (or did in the 3d version.)

Unless you want your character to be dead (I've sacrificed and deleted characters in the name of roleplay before) people generally say they were "knocked out".

As a general rule, guild abbreviations/tags are not visible IC. People get touchy about this, so make sure not to acknowledge any such "badge" unless they emote something such as *holds out his/her guild badge to indicated his/her allegiance* or something to that effect.

Personal storylines can be made on the fly or planned out between several individuals. If I have a plot that effects only my character, I generally just wing it and allow others to participate if they wish. As long as it won't harm or otherwise effect other characters, you don't really need to plan it out with other parties.

Number 5 is a question of tasteful and mature roleplay. Several factors need to be taken into consideration. On one hand, the captor wants to succeed, but the villain wants to escape. It depends on the motives of the characters and the ability of the players to immerse themselves in to the role. I, myself, would most likely allow my character to be captured, just for the fact that it could bring about some more roleplay than being a fugitive on the run would.

I'm not sure about assassinations. I think it's generally discussed between the assasin and the assassinee for a lack of a better word. If you can agree upon terms with your target, you're golden.

Good luck, and I hope to see you around. As long as you're not punching babies.

Wink

Anyone with dye and a thorn has the right to be tatooed

2. When I die and become a ghost, did I really die or did I feint or something?
In Ultimas when you die you die, your a ghost, the manifestation of the ether you carried as a living body. you must find one with the magics to add body to your "soul" If you cannot or you have been killed in such a dramatic mannor that you cannot come back, you ghost is transported to the Ethereal Void where it can only be retreived by an all powerful wizard.
Or you can just get knocked out. In dules and such its best to just get the wind knocked out of you. When wars happen I assume tens of people actually die who are "npc" and the actual guild of RPers was just ravished.

3. Is your Guild Title a roleplay visible badge? I've gotten mixed answers on this one.
Did you seriously? Its your choice or your guild masters choice. if someone has a badge or insignia on them you will find it in their profile.

4. Where do all these personal storylines come from? Like with Spawn getting possesed by the rampaging something something from the something system. Years of roleplay and working out plots with other guilds. Its rather easy.

5. What if, say, Eric the Villain is seen by Dredd the Judge, punching a baby. Dredd knows baby-punching is illegal in this particualr area and attemptes to arrest Eric. Yeah, But its best not to do this when you are blue or greatly outnumbered. MAINLY blue tho, if you try to escapse from a murder scene by walking away unharmable you will be a douche. Fighting or hide/stealthing are the only real good ways to escape something like that

6. What's the level of technology? I thought I had it figured out, but then I found a character on my account (which I share with a friend and never check the other characters) had a wrist watch. What's the dealio?
There is a certian level of technomancy left over from lord blackthorns revenge. Wristwatches can be roleplayed at tinker creations or sundials.
its up to you to creat what you want but dont go overboard of people may distain your RP, IE you cast vas vera omog to creat chevy

EDIT 7. Not that I'm planning to anytime soon, just curious. How does assassination work? If someone gets assassinated, would they be dead? I guess this is an expansion of question 2.
These are worked out before they take place, its prolly best you RP an evil scholar and just join my guild

To avoid emote arrests and emote combat in general make sure you are in war with the owner of the territory you are in committing these crimes in.

Level of Technology: We are at the renaissance level of technology. I think it would be generally accepted for anything with gears to be legit. Additionally thanks to Blackthorne and past RPers like Dealthagar, Unity and Anna we have technomancy / human machine constructs.

Baby punching. HEHEHEHEHE That was funny. Not the actual baby punching but the lil story thingy. lol! I like you alot already.

One of the things my character does is what she calls body art. She can burn temporary and permanent tattoos on to the skin, (or horns in her husband's case). Her body art has been used for just looks and also for more "mystical" reasons. (basically the idea is like the tattoo adds to a specific spell type like a +2 ring of fire would. It doesn't really ofcourse cause it's all just well..imagined.) But it's been a fun thing that I enjoy rp'ing. So, if they didn't exist in an RP sense, then I'm in alot of trouble. hehe

"Badges" as said earlier are up to each guild or guild leader if you actually see them or not. Badges most of the time aren't actual badges in a wallet or something, but more like a patch, insignia or some other marking that has a guild sign on. Like, the Dark Order is an military guild and wear identifiable uniforms with a marking. Umbra, however, wants the enemy to be more confused so they don't wear one from what Cein said recently.
It can get confusing though whether you've been rping in the community for 2 days or 10 years as to who is showing what guild they're with and who's not. From what I've seen, to help with the confusion, those not wearing an identifiable "badge" or marking, will drop their guild marking so that ppl cant see it ingame, and those that do wear one will tend to have guild title showing. I'm not saying everyone does it this way, but some do, and I know that it's helped me ALOT.
Either way, if you get yelled at cause you made some minor mistake, don't sweat it. Smile

Death is always fun. Your pretty much considered "too injured, or knocked out", to fight, spell, or do too much taking great thought, energy, or movement.
Assassinations of people who aren't going to accept permanent death can be extremely difficult and very hard to rp, but also very funny if you get murdered one day and there you are a couple of days later in the local tavern. I had this happen to me, I was assassinated, but I still had things that I had to be ingame for. Fortunatly, most seem to handle that one now more as an assassination "attempt" where the character came very close to dying, but didn't make it to the pearly gates.
"So Ditto, I heard you were killed the other day. Are you feeling better now?" LMAO

Raeydn already answered with really good answers, so I'm just going to say this:

If someone is actually wearing a badge IC, usually it is in their profile. Umbra is under strict orders to keep guild tag visible at all times, with the exception being in disguise.

I think I have a confession to make.

Way back when I was Roleplaying it up with Arlin and the boys in Army of the Frontier, I think I made up the "badge" idea just so we could tell apart who was which rank in our army. It was just something I thought would be a clever way to take something OOC and put it in IC for the sake of Roleplay.

Lynch me now. Sad

Some guilds wear distinct uniforms such as Sanctus and House Gauntlet. You would know by the colors that they were part of those guilds. They may have their guild symbol emblazened on their armor or their shield etc. to make it obvious. This is something that many light guilds do. Isk's guild colors are distinctive as well and he is sort of evil but thinks he is good. He walks a fine line sometimes. He is a secular humanist.
