"Men are everywhere…" The voice spoke tersely, irritated.
"Don’t you think I know that?" Rhiannon responded, just as irritated.
"Evidently you don’t. Men are all around, everywhere you go! You could have all the fun you want! But for some reason you are STILL focused on that one man!"
"We've talked about this before! So, just shut up!" Rhiannon brought her hands to her ears.
"Oh, wait…I forgot!" The voice laughed, amused - like an adult would laugh at a small child. "It's not just that one man... He has come back, too…"
Rhiannon knelt into the sea, held her breath and pushed off the embankment with her feet, swimming under the waves. She twirled her body, flowing quickly through the water. Her speed decelerated and she treaded gently, remaining underwater. There, she hid from the voice, the voice that told her, or convinced her, to do things…things like what she had done to Lee so many years ago.
It was a selfish voice. It thought nothing of others and sought to protect Rhiannon as well as avenge any of the smallest transgressions set against her. It was the voice Rhiannon had to constantly shush while around Daz. It was the voice that wanted Rhiannon to never fall in love…love would make her weak it said. As Rhiannon was growing stronger in the art of the dark spells, the voice was growing louder and more aggressive. It was becoming more and more difficult to silence.
The water helped; it was cool and soothing. Under there, she was able to drown all the noise from her head. She stayed under until her body screamed for air; she swam up and broke through, gasping deeply. She blinked the water from her eyes and looked up to the rising sun. The voice was silent. _________________
