“Looky here, Charrrrlie!” Tigress purred carrying an armful of apples. She let them fall to the ground keeping one in her hand. She offered it to the unicorn, Charlie, and he happily munched on it from her hand, taking one small bite after another as Tigress patiently held it up for him. As he munched she looked all around them, her feline eyes and ears sharply acute to all around her. “Beautiful island, Charrrrlie. Plentiful hunting…hinds, pigs, goats…”
“Eck, woman,” the unicorn spoke. “I’ll never understand your carnivorous ways.” After finishing his last word he rubbed his tongue at his back teeth, trying to dislodge a piece of apple skin.
Tigress purred quietly, smiling at her old friend. “It just tastes so good…” She licked her lips, flickered her ears, and winked to Charlie. “Juicy…best when it is still warm…”
Charlie made a deliberate gagging sound and chuckled as he settled on the ground. Tigress stretched her arms up to the sky, and brought her body down to all fours. She lengthened her body, pushing against the ground with her hands. She breathed out, rolled over to Charlie and propped her head on his belly.
“Oh!” Charlie grunted.
“What's the matter, big guy?”
“Oh, that elf said I looked out of shape, so I exercised a bit today.” Charlie rolled his eyes at himself and laughed. “I think the little guy was right.”
Tigress grinned, reached over and scratched him behind his left ear. Charlie began to kick his back leg slightly, giggling. She stopped and settled herself, pulling her tail out from under her - allowing it to snuggle around one of Charlie’s back legs.
They both sighed, simultaneously. “Think we’ll stay here long, Charlie?”
“Eh. Who knows? Does it really matter?”
“Nah. Does it ever?” she grinned.
“What did that woman…Veentee, say the name of this place is?”
“Moonglow,” Tigress said without enthusiasm. “Nice enough name, and like I said -plentiful food supply. Oh, surrrrrounded by the sea, too! You know what that means! Fish, fish, fish…”
Charlie crinkled his nose, “I repeat…Eck, woman!”
They laughed lightheartedly at each other, resting before setting up camp. |
