|
Starting on the 5th of November I'll be hosting at the Tower of the Skull themed RP classes centered around general evil RP/Undead RP/Advanced Undead RP and Evil Community lore.
We'll also look at ideas for undead dress, undead mannerisms and of course Q and A.
It should run around an hour a session, with most of the time role-playing exercises much like the ones Kuja used to run taking place. I encourage all rpers Light and Dark to attend as a better understanding of evil and undead is always a good thing!
I think with Ceinwyn's permission I'll provide gates from the roof of the Umbra inn as I think we all know where it is.
Just note I generally wont cover vampires that much, as the community generally follows a style of vampire RP that would take some time to fully explain, but if there is a great interest I can set up a special vampire session and get a few guest speakers in.
As things progress I'll try to get evil rpers past and present to come in and give sessions on their style/type and I'd like to also cover evil belief systems of Atlantic RP including Oblivion-Worship, Oggaroth stuff (Thrax...hint hint), The House Ne'sveti. and The lore on the Guardian and the Shadow-Lords to name a few.
Feel free to Q me with any questions.
If there is a pre-planned meeting going on for Regency/RCL or WIT training that day be sure to let me know and I'll move it. |

This is something we need for sure. RPing evil is a bit more "complicated" than roleplaying light imo. By complicated, I mean most "evil" chars are secluded or arnt really welcomed in alot of areas..so they have to be creative with plots and their rp and such. It'll be nice to get some of the fresher blood to learn the other side of rp (from mtc atleast) |

Make sure you let the people who attend know that it is OOC. No evil person would give away such secrets IC!
I am hoping this doesn't become a "you have to play demons/undead this way" or "you have to play vampires/lycans this way" or "you have to play evil this way" type of thing. It would be most annoying to have people run up with garlic and wooden stakes constantly, or screaming about how all undead are controlled by Oblivion, when they are not.
What time on the 5th are you shooting for?
Oh and also, is it an evil RP class, or a community lore class? Or a mix of both? |

Good points Cein...
While I won't say that the methods I use or give are the only way to RP certain types of Undead, I'll cite examples from OES and other guilds of how they worked for certain characters at certain times. It's going to be more of a skeleton (no pun intended) for the RPer to work with and build upon.
The lore is important in terms of OES/ZOG/Oggaroth and beyond because characters can capitalize on it, make use of it and tie themselves or their future plots into lore that has been a part of atlantic since the 90s.
As far as time, I'd like to say 8. |

I don't know your lesson plans, so I'll throw a condensed version of my two cents in here about some points to bring up that might be good for you to teach at the class.
First one... Evil does not necessarily mean saturday morning cartoon over the top evil a'la world domination, destruction of all existance, or murder / cruelty for no reason besides 'fun'. Evil comes in many forms, and honestly, the majority of the more interesting ones seem to stem from a GOOD idea gone WRONG, or implemented in the worst way possible, even if it is meant for the greater good. Some good examples:
The holy empire of Istar Dragonlance in the days before the cataclysm, when the gods destroyed Istar because the kingpriest went too far, demanding the power to let the forces of good dominate the world over evil (i.e., attempted genocide of the ogre races 'just because they were evil', etc)... And also the Scarlet Crusade from Warcraft lore. The scarlet crusade was formed by former Knights of the Silver Hand after that order fell apart, and became an order of undead slaying zealots. The examples of good intentions gone wrong is that, not only will they kill undead outside of the Scourge (utterly evil undead) even if those undead have pure intentions or have proven themselves not evil, the scarlet crusade will kill anyone they feel MIGHT be undead (it takes them about ten seconds after meeting you to decide if you might be or not, as you can read in the above link) as well as killing anyone they feel is an undead sympathizer. There is also a gigantic amount of corruption among the scarlet crusade which, again, you can read in that link if you are interested.
Moving along from good intentions gone wrong, I have two other major points to bring up (I could sit here all day and go on about minor things, but I digress): First, keeping the above in mind, evil does not need to have such a large goal as world domination or destruction or whatever. Simple thugs, mercenaries with no standards as to the jobs they pick up, murderers, organized mafia/crime type things... There is the entire spectrum of minor crimes that can indeed be just as devastating as an evil character/group with a higher goal, and more than likely ends up being more interesting because it hasn't been done (well) that often.
Last point, which fits in with the above two perfectly... Evil characters do NOT need to be of an 'evil race', brought up under 'evil circumstances', be posessed by something evil, etc etc etc, in order to be 'evil'. Honestly, the concept of standard joe schmoes that just feel those evil paths are 'easier' paths to what they want tend to be more interesting. To summarize, your reasoning for evil does not need to be epic. I would rather read a detailed story of how say, a blacksmith's son lost his mother to organized crime, and he has become a cold hearted bastard since, and so feels no remorse killing anyone that might be involved in organized crime... Instead of reading say, how some evil demigod ninja pirate waffleman has come to steal all of the maple syrup from britannia and then destroy and/or rule the universe once he has obtained said maple syrup. Okay, thats a bad example; I'd love to read about that, but you get where I'm going. Overly epic can be repetitive, and honestly never comes out epic, just comes off as silly.
Anyways, I don't want to come off as trying to run your RP class for you, just suggesting what came to mind, perhaps my analogies or explanations will help you out or give you some additional ideas of what to teach your future ebil nublets... And lastly, this post was not meant to bash any character that might fall into an above category (fairly epic, of an evil race or grand evil backstory, etc); I think that all of those things can be done well, they just generally are not, and my points aern't meant to deter people from that roleplay, simply show them alternatives that, in the opinion of this old timer, will end up being MUCH more fun to play, MUCH more interesting for others to roleplay with, and MUCH more memorable and possibly end up being as much of a legend as many others claim to be and fail miserably at.
If anyone is interested in the adventures of the alien evil demigod pirate ninja waffleman and his adventures in syrupland, my publisher assures me that the book will be available for preorder soon, and on shelves in time for christmas. Buy some for the kids, corrupt them young with the power of maple syrup (and world domination and/or destruction)! |

Good points and true. But guys, take in mind that this is just RP 101 for evil and there is only so much one can do in one hour or so of time. I'm sure Darrien will cover over a bunch of different points over time and over many RP classes.
*On a side note to dragonlance being mentioned*
Dark Order was created to be kind of like the Knights of Takhisis/Neraka in Dragon Lance. Lawful Evil military that wants to take over the world.*gasps* |

Kuja I'm 100% with you, I personally find the order of paladins so good they are evil my favorite RP angle.
This is going to be a very basic overview of types of evil characters, undead, and ways in which these concepts can be brought IG. I will look at chaotic evil, lawful evil ect... and try to do as much as possible.
The hope is that people can formulate their own ideas from what is offered and run with it. As interest peaks on certain types of evil characters or points I bring up with attendee input I'll direct classes towards what the masses want.
Also keep in mind while I am brilliant, I am not (too) arrogant. I'll be bringing in a support team of evil rpers past and present to add input and elaborate on anything I say.
It should be good! |

Thanks to everyone who attended...same time same place next week.
Special thanks to Samon, Tati and Daz for doing exceptionally well in the role-play drills.
I hope it was informative. |

I'm sad I couldn't make it. I was really looking forward to it, but I had to run to pick my friend up from the hospital at the last minute. Can't wait for next week. _________________ Darrien_Church: he asked what was the church of england based on
