The zookeeper’s bleary light blue eyes began to open at dawn with no recollection of the night’s events. Then came a stabbing pain from the back of his head. He found himself in the wolf pen of the zoo. He and the rest of the pack were huddled together in a tight ball as a cold fog drew up from the ground. With a splitting headache, Daz looked around confused and stunned. What happened last night? One of the wolves yawned and began licking the stunned zookeeper. Oh yea, that helps. Thanks. The elf reached around to the back of his head and found the gash that had crusted over with blood. More wolves began to stir from their slumber and start to lick on the zookeeper. Yes I love you too. Thanks, thanks. All the wolves were now vigorously licking and cleaning the zookeeper. Ok, I’m up, I’m up. The wolves began to ramble about the paddock. The elf looked around and saw more blood. The zookeeper reached into his pocket to find a ribbon that said, Umbra Costume Contest Winner.
His recollections of the night’s events were sketchy at best and mostly just fog. Daz reasoned that he and Lee had had too good of a time at the masquerade. Lee must have gone home early. Daz would have stumbled through the zoo on his way home. He must have fallen into the wolf pen, hit his head pretty hard, and bled quit abit. He let himself out of the pen and staggered home.

On the evening of the much-anticipated Umbra masquerade ball, the zookeeper stood in front of the mirror admiring his water elemental costume. He had never looked better, although that’s not saying much. His lady Lee was going as a fire elemental and together they would dance the night away, burning and splashing as they went traipsing around the dance floor. Daz, smiled at the thought.
Don’t worry dear, its nothing a floppy hat or a mask won’t cover up came a voice from behind him. With that, a dark bag was pulled tight over the zookeeper’s head. Daz started to struggle. I don’t think you are getting enough sleep. The dark voice continued as something heavy hit the back of the zookeeper’s head and his body went limp.
Now stand! There ya go. You look great, Daz, now go and have a good time. Don’t forget to take the bag to the Umbrans. You have worked hard for that. Nice job by the way. Then came a horrendous roar. Black eyes gleamed from beneath the bear as droplets of a dark red liquid dripped from the claws.
