His small operation was progressing slowly. He had already spoken with one who claimed to be head of the "FreeLancers", those who sold their skills to whom needed them, or whomever paid the most the ranger supposed. Currently, according to Therian, there were also agents of the Militia placed inside Magicinia to observe and make reports regularly.

This could produce some good useable results from what Warden Eldan had surmised. He was finishing up his nightly round about the city of Vesper, covering the southern portions of it, as the other group of the Militia had been taking care of the north. The forest was quiet this evening, as it had been for the past few nights.

So the thoughts of the up and coming events and how they might effect his home city came to mind. As he arrived back to the Militia's head quarters he moved into the war room and began writing to Lord Roger De Clare, as the man had called himself.

Lord Roger,

I hope this letter finds you well my friend. I have been keeping vigilant here in Vesper, conducting my patrols as usual. We also have an agent posted where we discussed earlier this week. I will most likely not be going there myself. But I have heard much regarding the Alliance making a stand in the upcoming battles. I wish to meet with you soon to discuss how we may coordinate such, as well as those that you are cooperating with, so we may all share the information we have garnered.

He truly enjoyed quiet evenings at home with his beloved lady and tonight would have been no exception...except he was delayed at a wharf on Verity Isle. A storm had prevented his reaching Magincia as planned and now...repairs had to be completed on the ship.

Not a wealthy man, but far from poor, and being in haste, he paid exorbitant prices for materials without any quibbling. Apparently, ships were in greater demand than ever since Magincia could not be reached by moongate or recall and so prices had skyrocketed.

He could leave the repairs to his crew under the ship's captain's critical eye and journey through the ether to his home and his lady. But first there was this list!

"Was that all the sailcloth we needed?" he asked Captain Halfdan.

A man approached them as they had the crew load the materials and carry them off. "Captain de Clare?"

"Aye," he answered giving the man a quick look as he dodged a pole the seamen called a "spar" as the men carrying it swung about to tote it away. He should probably put his helmet back on.

The man handed him a message, "My lord D'Arden awaits a reply, sir."

"Excuse me, Halfdan," Roger said to the captain and scanned the message.

Roger went into the shop and borrowed pen, ink and paper. Scribbled a reply.

"My lord, Eldan D'Arden

"Mine is merely a small company engaged by the Royal Council of Light to scout the troubled area for whatever we may glean. Please contact them for details on how you can help repel the invasion so many fear comes to that island.

"As for any information you have, I'd like to hear it personally but you would serve yourself better to speak directly to Duchess Molly Kaldhel. I thank you for your offer.

Roger de Clare, Captain
the Free Lancers

He handed message and a small bag of gold to the messenger and returned to business. He glanced at sun. He wanted to reach Magincia today, blasted weather permitting.

And his beloved lady. Sometimes being a paladin was so conflicted!

(I'll try to be at Great Horns Tavern, Magincia/Fel by 9:30 pm CST, 29 Oct)
