The weather proved fair and the trip uneventful. Roger de Clare rode through the island looking for signs of invasion and saw none. Just the strange lack of animals and the inoperative moongate.

He met his men at the Great Horns Tavern and compared notes. Nothing worth reporting because it only repeated what he already reported.

The good news is, he thought as he recalled from there to the mainland, I can be home tonight.
