I got a very strange message from Fong this evening via ICQ that had a extremely suspicous link attached. After speaking to my computer expert (ie Steve hugglesmilie ) it has been determined it is most likely some trojan/key logger. Do NOT open this link sent by anyone...

I got it too. My sugestion to him is to a new icq number because someone has obviously highjacked his number. We have had this happen before with Relik. About the only thing you can do is get a new one because once they have an active one they will use it again. You could change the password to get into the icq, that might work. It is always a good precaution to change your password periodicly for anything.

BAD ADVICE

Do not do ANY of that. Close it, and do not touch it.

It's the same drill as with the Kingdom Reborn spoilers site, same guy who's doing it as well.

I hope Fong's account isn't in peril, sometimes ICQ's are hacked, but UO accounts aren't (bad programming on the virus writers behalf?).

Lords and Ladies I would like ALL of you to make sure you delete my ICQ number. My ICQ and Account have both been hacked. Hopfully I will be able to retrieve my account (even if I have the horrible feeling that everything I'v worked 7 years for) is not gone, but such is life. I am going to be attempting to contact EA to get my account back but other then that I have no clue what to do. Chances are if EA does nothing I'll probably be quiting UO, deleting all UO related programs and cursing (insert your personal god here)

Sorry guys =\ I really hope this works out for me and I hope no one else got hit.

*cries*

Ok, I talked to EA (yes I suprisingly got to TALK to someone.) They help'd out a little but my next question....what do I do? Should I delete my ICQ #? and how do I ensure my account will remain safe? Should I wait for halister or kuja to help me find this little bugger before I attempt to log in agian? I am running a norten virus scan but I'm worried that it will miss whatever this stupid thing is.

Fong I am very sorry to hear about your problem. Let me know if there is anything we can do to help. If your UO account was hacked and you lost stuff *when you find out* Please let me know I am sure myself and others would want to help you out!

As for the technical side of the hacking, yes I would say talk to one of our wondrous computer people here!

suprisingly I only lost a few arties and some funds from my banks. No need to help, I can always start with what the dumb arse left be.Most of the other things were on characters I don't play often and will be easily attaind agian. However someone has their hands on a pretty HoM =\, I figure its all just a bunch of pixels, but its the violation of privacy which is PISSING me off.

Karma doesn't get back at hackers. At least you got to keep the house and the statues, yes?

Do not change any passwords on that computer. If it is a keylogger, it will just record the new passwords you type. This is how Baron got hacked like 3 times. He kept changing passwords on his PC, without removing the problem first.

I think people have mentioned it before here, but I figured I might as well do it again.

It's a good idea to have your password(s) saved in a word/notepad document for easy copy/pasting. Then instead of typing them in, you can just copy/paste them in instead. Saves you from a lot of keylogger problems since you aren't actually typing in any keys.
