Suspended in the fluid, she often felt as if she did not really exist, but yet her mind had grown, and with it new thought had formed. She had begun to decipher the fleshy creatures language, not by hearing but by sight. They formed words with their mouths and she had slowly begun to grasp each mouths movement and what it was saying by the reaction of those around. One of them was blond and tall she new somehow that he was connected with her existence. Another with blue hair came and there was quite a to do as she peered inside their tanks, one of the other creatures next to her suddenly animating at the sight of the blue haired woman.
Reine turned her back on the visitors only preferring to look upon them when they did not look upon her. The white haired woman was around the most and Reine felt comfortable only in her presence. She often turned to gaze on her when she scribbled in her pad.
Today Reine was hungry and she felt this gnawing pain deep within her, she wanted to tear or cut something, her young mind instinctively staring at the fleshy creatures.
Her back hurt as well, or was it a tickle she had trouble discerning sensations at this stage. When all was quiet she thrashed around in her tube reaching her arms around to scratch at her back. Suddenly blood oozed from her back and a pair of fragile wings broke forth cramped but trying to flutter within the tube. They could be confined beneath her skin no more, their size having grown adequate for emergence. Reine watched the red liquid swirling about in the tube with wild eyes, while trying to control the random movements of the appendages on her back. Finally she was able, to wrap them around herself like a safe cocoon. Thin and fibrous they had a bluish tint with veins and major artieries running thru their structure. In time they would grow stronger more solid but like a new babe they were weak and unstable. She was happy now as they shielded her from the eyes of the watchers and she smiled to herself as she drifted off to sleep, her energy spent from the new appendages.
The following day Reine was released, but refusing to leave the protective shell of her wings she saw nothing yet of the new world around her. _________________ May destiny guide you... |
