Ditto knudged the kitchen door open with her elbow, carrying an oversized tray with empty dishes.
She would be so glad if and when her husband at least found his old routine of dining, at least sometimes, in the dining room. She never imagined the work involved in just keeping him fed, especially most recently now that he was training again. She didn't mind tending to her husband. Nor did she mind doing tasks the servants were there for. But the actual work of it all got to her at times. After all, she was use to being lazy. Use to being pampered in return for her pampering. Tarothin hadn't pampered her at all. Since returning he'd at times hold a brief conversation with her, but even then, she was lucky if he wasn't being cold and in her mind...most uncute in his behavior. And, the letter she'd written him hadn't even been found by him yet. It still sat in plain view. Plain view for people of normal height and frame anyway.....hmmm...Perhaps she should move it higher.

She interrupted her own ponderings to dump the dirty dishes off the tray and into the kitchen tub. Grabing one of the clean, large stew bowls, Ditto turned to the still bubbling kettle, half filled with Jujual's special stew.
Tarothin seemed to like. So did others who'd tried it. Jujual, their cook & head of the household staff, was extremely secretive about her cooking. Never letting anyone but herself tend to it. Before lifting the kettle's spoon, Ditto let her eyes wonder to the spice jars nearby. Just what was the voodoo witch putting in the house meals? It wouldn't be so very bad for her to check just the spices. It was her duty, after all, to protect her family.
Ditto sat the tray down and picked up one spice after the other. They weren't marked, so she had to open up each one and take a sniff or a pinch to taste. Though her tongue swelled with the pureness of some of the spices and her own knowledge indicated that herbs used for magic were being used, she couldn't identify any of them as being actually harmful. Shrugging to herself, she began dipping the stew into the bowl and went back to her ponderings.

If Tarothin would only take a meal or two with her during the day, then perhaps the house staff wouldn't be so afraid to serve him themselves. Or clean up in his presence. Just the other day, she'd walked in on Jujual physically tugging and pulling at their mute maid, Jhanna, just to go into the bed chamber to do her normal routine. Tarothin had been expected back any moment and Jhanna didn't want to be making up a bed when he walked through the room. Jujual had finally gotten the young woman to the bed by shoving her and threatening to beat her with her broom when Taro -did- show. Pausing just briefly only at the sight of the old crone standing over the fallen maid, with her broom high in the air in a threatening stance, he merely continued on his way to his study. Though not acknowleding them, at least Ditto could tell that he was aware of happenings around him. This, to her, showed a progession of an even more uncaring attitude.
She herself, had walked into the room behind him, as she'd been on her way to clean the study. But she stopped short and walked back out again. Unlike in the past when even if he were busy, he would allow his wife in to clean around him, now not even she was permitted inside if he were there, unless ofcourse if she had to address him with something he deemed...."of importance ".
Hmph!

The second bowl of stew in one hand, Ditto opened the heavy door to the study. There he was, in his oversized chair at his desk. He didn't even turn in her direction. No warm smile to greet as he so often did before the day the wraiths came. She didn't even know if he were sleeping or awake, though she imagined he was awake since he'd requested more lunch. She was still making it a point not to speak to him until after he'd read her letter, so she held back the smile she normally displayed at just the sight of him, and walked matter of factly and oh so snootily across the room to place the bowl near him on his desk, but in so doing......Ditto got an urge, as was her nature, she acted on it. Just as she was about to set the bowl down, she tipped it over obviously on purpose and let it fall onto Tarothin's lap in a hot splash!
She readied herself to run if the need arose.
