Lee sat on her rooftop with her usual breakfast of muffins and milk. She looked into the horizon and was disappointed to see only gray, dreary clouds covering the sky. She would not have the blessing of seeing the rising, beautiful sun this morning.
She thought about the day before. She was unable to focus on all of the day's events as there was one which loomed heavily in her mind and heart, blocking all else from concentration. She had been careless. She and her guild mates had set out on a march to Dark Cove searching for the possessed Spawn. Dark Cove had been chosen as a prime location because their leader had threatened Moonglow if they dared to enter their territory.
On their way to Dark Cove, they had been ambushed. Most of the members of the party had not known how to respond to such and ambush, so they had nearly been destroyed. She was thankful that no one was mortally injured. All lives had been recovered and that was truly a blessing.
She shook her head shamefully. Lee had made a foolish mistake. She had visited the bank a few day before to take some insurance off her things. She did this to save some gold while training for the recent tournament. When she returned to the bank and reinsured her things she had forgotten one of the most important things - she had not requested auto renewal for her insurance. Lee sat her muffin down, she could not eat this morning.
During the ambush, the thieves had stolen nearly everything. It was not the loss of things that bothered her. It was, rather, letting down her mentor, Joseph. Lee felt her stomach burn with guilt. How could she have done something so... so.... stupid? She leaned forward and rubbed her temples.
The one thought that gave her comfort was how quickly and selflessly some of her guild mates had come to her aid. Some had returned to the place of the ambush and had bravely recovered some of her things. Others had given her armor from their own supply. She smiled proudly as she thought of these friends.
Lee looked around her roof and sighed. She would be moving this week, and she had a lot of packing to do. She stood up, looked up to the dreary sky, and began her day. |
