Audrina led the horse in to the house and called up the stairs for Atira. Quickly, Atira bolted down the stairs and ran to her mother. She beamed up at Audrina and then wrapped her tiny arms around her. Audrina simply patted her on the head and gave her a reassuring smile. Atira’s eyes moved towards the horse.

”Mommy wha—“

Audrina cut her off, ”Pull out your bow Atira and stand back here.” She moved back towards the wall and positioned Atira further from the horse. Audrina went back and stood directly in front of the horse, holding the beasts head steady. She pointed to a spot on the horse’s neck. ”Aim for this spot, Atira and shoot when I say.”

Atira lifted her tiny bow as carefully and steadily as she possibly could. She looked across the room at the horse and then repositioned her bow. ”Ready?” Audrina looked at Atira and Atira gave a quick nod. ”Shoot!”

The horse fell to a lump on the ground, his legs twitching slightly, a loud noise leaving his body with his last exhale of life. Atira stood waiting nervously for her mother’s approval and Audrina turned to her with a smile.

”Go continue to read, Atira.”

Atira nodded and said, ”Yes Mommy.”

Audrina then sent for Tay. It was his turn to learn something useful. She stood over the horse’s dead body, watching the blood pour over the stone floor. Tay smiled to his mother and waited for her to speak.

”Tay, I want you to raise this beast. Use the strength within your mind as well your knowledge of necromancy. Do not leave this house until you do so.” She looked at him with a half smile, attempting not to be too hard or to soft on him.

Audrina left him there as he began flipping through his spell book. She had faith that he would be able to perform his task just as well as his younger sister performed hers. The Matriarchs demanded she bond with her children and so she had begun, but surprisingly, she found herself enjoying their company. And even more surprisingly she found herself enjoying the small amount of time spent with Beowulf. Ironically, the darkness had shed a rather interesting light upon Audrina and her family.
