LaBelle stood, outside the affairs of Regency; yet with heart entwined. Clad in the garments designated by the previous Lord Regent Oryan as Regency official garb; she listened on as in the reign of many previous Regents to the individualistic needs of members, and crisis concerning those individuals. Only the information of a Daemon Gargoyle outside Vesper was of interest to her. The lady with the emerald eyes spoke with concern and great detail of her encounters with the Daemon. LaBelle pondered the situation.
It had been long since the Lady Paladin had attended the Regency Conference. Change lacking, she peered to her feet the duration of the assembly. The only noticeable difference was the lack of spectacle. In many cases this would be preferred; however in the case of Governance, spectacle is required. For the people to heed their Government, they must be aware of it's existence. For the people to respect their Government they must feel its presence. The partisan she had known; and now Regent, Lord Porthos; openly mocked leaders of diverse domain. Were there spectacle, the Lady would have been embarrassed for his Lord. She continued to stare upon her feet the length of the assembly.
Upon the Lord Regent's close, she lifted her skirt slightly above her ankles and proceeded towards the barrels of fresh water. Submerging her hands within; she splashed cool water upon her face in attempt to wash away the disdain. The woolen cloak she wore about herself provided adequate towel. Lowering her head she silently departed the company of the Lord Regent and his attendants.
Within the walls of the Hall of Paladins LaBelle nestled into her small bunk. Thoughts of the forthcoming council with his Lord Regent prevalent in her mind; she drifted into a deep slumber. |

LaBelle knelt before the Lord Regent; blade lifted high, arms stretched. She began to shake, and her tears ran freely upon each cheek. The weight of the sword was less burden than that which weighed heavy on her heart. The familiar words escaped her lips monotonously, " This lady swears fealty to the Government Britannia, and his Lord Regent."
Each warm, tenacious tear representing her frustration and resignation. With no words to explain to his Lord why her tears fell, she fled his office in Malas, to the small room in The Hall of Paladins she called her own. Stripping her formal attire, she flung herself upon the small bunk continuing to sob.
There is nothing more greatly disturbing to the Paladin woman than to witness the continuing languish of her Beloved Regency save to witness those within power doing nothing to elevate it. For nearly two hours had she spoken and listened to his Lord this night. Without dubiety, a good and just man is he. Affable and indeed possessing righteous intention. However, his absence of regal, his lack of formalities, his leniency towards policy, and to the Paladin woman's deepest dismay; his failure to recognize that the Regency is unknown to her people, and does not act as nor is it perceived as a Government.
In the ends of their conversation, LaBelle knew there was not possibility to further implore this Regent to higher Governmental standards and accountability. The cities ordained by our lost King would continue without leadership, guidance, and support of a Government who holds weekly meetings to discuss Lordship, private affairs, and the individualistic needs of those that occupy it's seats.
Having served on the cabinet as Chamberlain for the Regent Oryan, having acted as Regent and arranged elections, having devoted her lifespan, and works to the Government Britannia, she knew nothing more. Thusly, with frustration, and resignation did her knee bend as she once again dedicated herself to Regency. For what good is a Virtuous lady, but to serve. And whom are we to choose whether to serve in prosperous times, or in times of grave arduousness; when we are servants the choice does not befall us. |
