Walking through the outskirts of Umbra Willow practiced with her katana. She had left gashes in a few trees. After a while she came upon a boy, who was a year or two older than she. Willow had only seen him around the town. She never cared to learn his name, but to her surprise he knew hers. He had been trying to catch her attention for some time, she only just now noticed.
“Hello Willow” said the boy.
“ Er...hello....(not knowing his name) there”
“ I thought that was you”
“Oh? What gave me away?” Willow asked snidely. The boy gazed to Willow’s green hair. “ Ah, I see well, what do you want?” She asked impatiently.
“I saw you swinging that sword, who’s is it, your father’s?
“The katana,” she corrected, “is mine”
“Yours?” The boy burst out laughing, “Girls can’t fight, they aren’t supposed to, that’s for the men” Just hearing this made her teeth ache. She tightened her grip on her weapon and simply waited for his laughter to subside. As the boy finished his laughing fit, Willow smiled the most innocent smile she cold muster.
“Care to duel?” Willow asked
“I can’t hit a girl” Convenient she thought.
“Oh,” She said feigning to be crestfallen, “ I was hoping I could learn from an older fighter like you. I thought maybe you could give me a hand with my fighting” She said practically batting her eyes at him.
The boy taking this as an invitation advanced toward her saying smugly, “Of course Willow, as I am the more experienced fighter I would be happy.....” But he never finished the sentence because Willow had swept kicked him causing him to land flat on his back with a satisfying thump on to the ground. And with a lightening movement she drew her katana down and cut his hand just below the wrist. He screamed and howled with pain. Unheeding to his screams and whimpers she bent down and picked up the boys newly amputated hand. He continued to howl with agony all the while nursing what was left of his right limb.
Willow tossed the hand up into the air and caught it saying, “Thank you for the hand. Not bad for a girl, huh?” As the blood ran down her arm and stained her clothing.
“GIVE ME MY HAND BACK” He bellowed.
“So you can do what, sew it back on? Sewing is for girls, boys can’t sew! Just like girls can’t fight” She said the last over her shoulder as she turned to leave back to her home. When she arrived she saw Nightshade walking out the door. Willow kept tossing the hand up and down
“What have you got there” Nightshade asked
“Trophy” She simply replied as continuing on into the house. Nightshade laughed and said aloud,” She reminds me so much of me when I was that age” And she walked away wondering what sort of havoc to cause.

Nightshade stormed into the house, removing her gloves as she walked. The house was quiet which she truly hated, she missed the loud squawking of Mimus calling for his pixies...

Sighing heavily it only increased her fowl mood as she climbed the stairs. She almost tripped on one of her own dolls...

Willow!

Grumbling she picked up the doll, smirked at it as she looked into the sad eyes of yet another imprisoned lightbringer and stormed into the girls dark room.

She stepped right into a puddle of blood and knocked over Willows collection of severed hands. Hissing angrily she stared at the bed seeing the lump that could belong only to her own wayward, 11 year old self.

She saw the tousled green piggy tails move as they awakened, surely from the commotion of falling body parts and an angry Nightshade. Two green eyes much like her own peered out from beneath the covers and she smiled she couldnt help it.

Willow did you perform your duties with Ceinwyn and attain advancement? The eyes blinked and there was no sound from the bed. I knew it! What did you do oversleep!

Nah I was out fighting Shade...

Shade hissed angrily again, I sent you to Umbra to advance your skills, a chance I would have died for, Shade chuckled, well I guess I did die for, but there are some very excellent fighters in Umbra that can teach you alot.

Willows young head appeared and she smirked at Nightshade, oh yes some excellent ones, I know one of them has caught even your eye Shade...

Shade did not find this amusing, you will remain silent! Walking forward she dragged the girl half dressed out of the bed. Lifting the girl by the back of her nightdress she flung her towards her piled armour. Clean it, dress, and find Ceinwyn. Beg her for another chance and advance! Do not return home until it is done!

Willow laughed rebelliously and yelled at the retreating form of Nightshade, What? Did I hit far to close to home? A loud hiss was her only reply...
