Gwyn woke in the morning feeling pain throughout her body. She still lay on the couch in the manor. Her head, back, and side hurt greatly. She had done no wrong, she did not deserve this.

She tried to sit up yet her head spun madly. Gently she lay back, wincing as she felt the pain of her bandaged wounds on her back. She remembered the sheriff tried to speak to her, but her mind was elsewhere, and Mallory and Varlan would not allow him to continue. For this she had been thankful.

Where was her husband? He needed to know. She tried once again to raise up but lacked the energy to do so without pain and dizziness. She needed to go back to the castle to see him. He must know what happened.

Closing her eyes, she tried to recall the night… the faces…. the message…. Her eyes opened wide. She had been told to give a message to the sheriff. She would seek him out after she spoke with her husband.

For now she would rest more. Closing her eyes and feeling tears slide down her cheeks she drifted off again.

“Peace be with you…..falsely accused…now I am guilty…remember!” The sound of laughter mingled with the words. Faces continuing to drift in and out. The cycle continuously running through her head.

She slept restlessly, her tiny brow furrowing as she dreamt.

She could see the hilt of a kryss, feel the boot to her side, the hand across her face….a boot on her shoulders as the tip of a sword sliced into her back… “peace… remember!...guilty…accused”

She awoke with a start, a cool sweat covering her. Turning her head she looked around the room, she was alone. She braced herself and slowly tried to get to her feet. Her head throbbed with pain. Using the couch to steady herself she made her way to the stairs. She braced herself against the wall and slowly ascended to the rooftop garden of the manor. She needed to send a message to… to… she fell to her knees, unable to call forth a dove. She hugged herself as she lowered her head and her eyes filled with tears. She was ashamed and felt disgraced.

She wanted to feel Marcus’ arms around her for comfort, yet at the same time wished him not to see her as such. See her? She needed to find a vanity so she could see herself. She imagined she was not a sight to behold. She wiped at a tear on her cheek and winced at the tenderness present.

Taking a deep breath and summoning what little strength she had, she made her way back down the stairs, gripping the wall to keep her from losing her balance. She moved slowly back to the couch and gingerly lowered herself. She would wait. The law would soon be around to speak with her, this she was assured of. She would tell them….tell them everything…
