“Damnit Bubbles, where are you?!” Galathan yelled, his voice booming through the cozy little Moonglow cabin. He upended chairs, scoured behind bookshelves, and even checked all of the dusty wine bottles in the wine cellar for signs of little webbed foot prints. But, there was just no sign of the little green baby duck anywhere. He checked the vases and the insides of his spare pair of leather boots. Nothing. Behind the clock and inside the armor chest. Nothing. On the window sill and up top the fireplace mantle. Nothing still.
“Bubbles! Come out, now!” Galathan’s temper was rising, he could feel heat creep up to his cheeks. He tossed aside the sheets on his bed, only to find nothing. A quick search beneath the bed yielded no fruitful results, as did checking beneath the nightstand adjacent to the bed. He stomped up to the roof-top garden overlooking the vast expanse of ocean off of the west coast of Moonglow. But, alas, there was no sign of Bubbles there, either.
Galathan let out an exasperated sigh, his anger transforming to loneliness rather quickly. He really wanted to talk to Bubbles. He was lonely for some intellectual conversation, for a change, and Bubbles was the best there was. The little duck’s insights were as brilliant as they were abundant, and could discuss anything from anatomy to zoology. Galathan felt a small pit at the bottom of his heart form that was roughly the size of the small baby duck. How he wanted to touch those delicate green ruffled feathers again.
Leaning against the wooden railing, Galathan gazed out over the ocean. The setting sun sparkled and danced along the lapping waves as seagulls formed tiny black dots out on the horizon. The wafting aroma of sea salt carried upon the air softly to his nose, reminding him just why he loved Moonglow Island so. The gentle breeze carried warmth, and rustled the leaves of the trees on the far side of the house, just beyond the tiny fenced-off wheat field. Bubbles loved to chase bright blue rabbits in that wheat field.
Galathan reached for a small pouch on his belt, opening it up to examine the contents. There was only a small bit of white powder sitting sadly at the bottom of the container. It, too, looked lonely. The thought of Daeynaries entered his mind, and their last encounter. Nothing but bickering and arguing; in front of a bunch of people in the crowded Hostel, no less. Whether he wanted to admit it or not (particularly to himself) he had to see her again. He had to stop such fussing with her. She did have what he needed.
He poured a bit of flour into the pouch before sealing it back up. He at least didn’t want to appear needy to Daeynaries, lest she pounce upon his weakness. He would play it calm and cool and use diplomacy. Once he gets what is needed, he wont need her so much and then it really wouldn’t matter what she thought. His fingers wrapped around a small locket.
He had torn it from her neck. What an ungentlemanly thing to do. Little splashes of dried blood speckled the exquisite locket, taking from it a certain innocence. It was the sort of locket a little girl would wear. He ran his thumb over it, opening it up. It was empty, much like how he felt without Bubbles. Locks of golden hair fell out of place as he shook his head, his chest giving a heave as he sighed heavily. He would go to meet with Daeynaries, and he would try to be a gentleman about it. _________________ Galathan

The cave between Sanctus and Umbra was a chilling temperature. Daey hugged herself with both arms to keep warm. As she rounded a staglamite she heard a familar voice call out to her. "Well hey there!" Galathan shouted. "You.." Daey said softly with narrowed eyes, glaring at him." Me? Isn't life wonderful?" Daey shrugged in response. "Awww, you must not be feeling very fell. Life getting you down or is it something else?" Galathan said snidely. Daey pushed her hair behind her ear and replied. "No a missing ear-lobe is."
"Well, that does seem problematic, however.. I was hoping you would sashay by." Galathan spoke softly.
"Oh? Another beating I presume?" Daeynaries responded, glaring at Galathan.
Galathan took a moment to dig in his pocket, then pulled out a golden locket. He looked at the locket briefly before tossing it to Daey. She caught it with both hands, gazing at him with wonder in her eyes.
"No harm will come to you and I wish to resume our trade, such as it was." Galathan said soothingly.
Daey smiled happily and nodded, holding onto her locket as if it were her lifes meaning. "A deal then.." Daey said softly and smiled at him.
"Was it truly your decision to up the price?" Galathan asked.Daey's demeanor changed suddenly, with her locket returned. She gave him a cold grin and replied. "It was MY decision... I enjoyed using you.. seeing you show your temper. I never thought you would go to the extent of hiring thugs."
"I didn't hire him, but you could have ended up much worse." He replied, leaning agains't the stalagmite.
Daeynaries hiked up her skirt, showing Galathan the slash marks on her thigh. "Pain means nothing to me, as you can see."
"Physical pain maybe not..... But your anger was all too real when I mentioned Emerald back in Umbra. Remember the knife pressed to your neck, remember your calling out to her?" Galathan seemed to grin while speaking those words.
Daey used all her power not to lurch at him. She wanted to kill him there where he stood. See his blood spilled on the cave floor. She composed herself and formed a perfect lie. "Emerald is nothing to me... just a maiden that once served my cause. I was only trying to make you feel pity for me and it worked. Did it not?"
Galathan seemed to see right through her lie but didn't say so. He simply replied. "None of this is relevant. I didn't wish to see you to bicker over symantics and so forth. I make for a much better ally then enemy, Does our deal stand?"
"So you promise... that if I keep my end of the bargain, Jovrick will not be harmed?" Daey responded with hopeful eyes.
Galathan gazed at her. "You love him don't you?"
"That is not your concern. You deserve no answer from me. Again symantics.. Do you promise?" she replied coldly.
Galathan nodded, his handsome lips curling into a sly grin. "You handle your thug and I will continue selling to you at regular price." She smiled and put her hands to her hips.
Galathan muttered, "Woman, cant live with them, cant skin them and eat them.. Ok its a deal then."
Daeynaries grinned a happy grin. "Fine a deal has been met. I do hope you keep your end of the bargain."
Galathan simply nodded and pushed off the staglamite holding his weight, making his way out of the cave. Daey continued along her path to Umbra to meet another customer in waiting. She hoped all the while their deal would be solidified by his actions. _________________ Deadly Vixen
