Nightshade heard the rustling outside the door and thru it open half expecting to see Mimus there, but once more she was reminded of his death and sadness engulfed her. She missed Mimus terribly, but she told herself, it was her punishment he would return when the time was right.

Looking down on the floor she immediately recognized the family crest on the letter she opened it and read it angrily,

Dearest Dearest Grandaughter
You are forsaking your duty to your family. I have a contract of marriage that is going unfulfilled
.
(Shade thought to herself, well then marry the buggert yourself granddad.)
As a concerned grandparent I feel it important to advise you my dear that your days of freedom are up. An heir is to be provided. Return home at once and fulfill your obligations.
Shade don’t deprive an old man of seeing his grandchildren…

Lovingly,
Your Grandfather
Doctor Johnathan Strathmore

Shade scoffed angrily throwing the letter, who did he think he was fooling! What stupid ploy had he come up with now. Their last meeting had been less than friendly why did he think that a kinder softer approach would do him any good? She began to laugh, He thought she cared about duty? He thought she felt he deserved some bit of loyalty? Her grandfather was an evil man, and for that she respected him but frankly she was no longer his experiment……

A powder on the letter’s paper rubbed off on her hands and she felt rather odd, as if she was suddenly being watched. The mark on the top of her hand began to glow once more and a fire leapt up dancing on the wooden floor, eating everything in its path. It occurred to her that he knew where she was, what she was doing and would not be surprised if the hills were filled with wolves, chasing her down.

With haste she left the small inn she had spent the night in, uncaring about the fire that raged within it. She would have to stay low for a while…
