"Cookies?"

The Umbran courier looked at her curiously.

"Would you like them poisoned?"

"No."

"Charmed?"

"No."

"Hexed?"

"NO! JUST REGULAR PLAIN OLD ORDINARY COOKIES!!"

Ceinwyn ab'Arawn growled in frustration. She rose from her chair, leaning across her desk to level an angry gaze on the courier. He swallowed, tightly, realizing how close he was to departing the world.

"Forgive me, Matriarch! A thousand apologies! It is not my place to question you, Matron." He bowed, offering her his head to take.

She nodded.

"Much better. Now then. Take this order to Poppi in Papua. She makes the absolute best cheesecake in all of Sosaria, so her cookies should be the best, as well. In theory anyway."

She handed him the slip for the order that was to be catered. He looked at her and asked,

"Where is it to be delivered, Milady?" He cringed, awaiting a beating.

Ceinwyn paused, she had completely forgotten to add the delivery address.

"See that they are delivered to Mayor Fong of Moonglow, personally."

He nodded, executed a formal bow, pirouetted, and left the room.

She just stared at the vacant space he left. She had been so distracted, of late. Her gaze strayed to the leather tome on her desk. Too distracted? Who knows. Everything still seemed to be running perfectly fine. It was just her being affected.

She sighed and sat back down in her chair. Pulling the tome to her, she reached for the ink. The more she put on paper, the less crammed was her already overactive mind.
