In light of recent observations, I just want to make a point to each and every one of you reading this thread about how sad I am with the current state of roleplay.
Two-thirds (or better) of the young-blood roleplayers I come across totally fail at giving the proper amount of emotion from their characters. When you have been captured, you have to think to yourself, "MY LIFE IS AT STAKE". Put yourself in a -real- situation, think how a normal person would react. I realize we create characters whom we like to think "have no fear" but you are almost dead wrong. Please, for the love of pete, use some emotion in your roleplay.
We all create fantasy characters with their own personalities and unique backgrounds and traits...but when it boils down, the avatars we chose to play are still PEOPLE, with gut instincts and normal reactions to stressors and stimuli.
Please, bring some intelligence to your roleplay experience...that is all |

P.S.
Lets break up the text on our IC stories a little bit more too, please? Dont need to leave a blank line after every full sentence but no one wants to read huge walls of text. |

Perhaps someone should elect to hold a few roleplay classes focusing on different aspects of roleplay and character building. Open it to new community members, as well as to the general public (aka stratics, book drops, etcetera).
This will not only educate newer roleplayers, but also allow those who seek an opening into the community a chance to become acquainted with the deeper aspects of interaction and character personification.
On a similar note, perhaps someone should hold a few shard wide events to increase public knowledge of Atlantic's roleplay community. During many of the EM sponsored events I have run into unaligned roleplayers who could run circles around some of the best members of this community, in both roleplay ability and scope, however they are completely oblivious as to the existence of such a wide spread group such as this.
Keeping this in mind, if anyone wishes to organize and promote such an event, we have several regular posters on this board, all of whom are news writers for stratics. I will also devote some of my time to teach a segment of a class if teachers are in lack of availability.
Just keep in mind that any new member of the community has the chance to blossom into a visionary or leader, but they will not do so without the current membership putting a stronger effort forth to educate and inform them of processes and ideals that do not occur naturally to the unversed. |

I was considering writing up a complete RP 101 post since I don't have the time to do classes... If there is enough interest, that is. I assume there is since we haven't had good roleplay classes in a long time (if I may flatter myself by saying mine were at least 'good' ) |

I think that would be a good idea. _________________ :bananhump: Put this in your signature if you think bananas need loving too... even if it is from behind. |

Sounds like a great idea Mith. I have been contemplating holding one IG, maybe the two of us can have a joint session. *refrains from adding any sarcastic jokes...* |

While a basic roleplaying clss would surely help, it's mostly an exercise of grounding your own ego, thinking with your head and acting like a normal person would, even if you are in a fantasy setting.
thats all i'm asking. |

That is the advanced lesson. See, the basic roleplayer lesson is to learn how to do basic roleplay, while the advanced roleplayer lesson is to learn how to stuff your ego in your pocket in order to learn how to do basic roleplay |

Do you think that maybe just exposing them to a continual source of good roleplay would be best? 6 years ago when I started roleplaying an Orc I was utterly horrible. But because of the many fine bastions of RP Virtue, I roleplay how I do today. |

If we truly learn best by watching others that are good at it (and I feel we do), then that would explain why the quality of roleplay is terrible lately... And also why the best new roleplayers come out of guilds that command their members not to visit forums. |

It's just too bad the ones who actually need it won't attend. |

Perfectly put. Some will, but 90% of the target audience wont... |
