The woman shrieked in pain as she stumbled barely able to walk, it was an odd sight. Shade held the paladin upright for a moment staring at Narcissa’s sister angrily. Alonwynn, Shut up!

You’re a beast! You’re a cruel, mean awful woman Alonwynn said angrily. I HATE YOU. Shade rolled her eyes and helped the woman ahead few paces. She was making this difficult. Alonwynn if we don’t get you to a healer you will die you fool, now,let us go. Alonwynn broke free of Shades helpful hands and fell to the ground. Blood trickled down her mouth as she spoke. Leave me be, I just want my freedom.

Shade sighed in exasperation, if she didn’t get Alonwynn to a healer soon she would die and he would be most displeased with her. Why, why had Barl saved the wench and forced Shade to bring her to the healers. He should have just let her die. She shook her head, his compassion was odd and rather disconcerting and she knew there must be something, some good reason behind it.

She strode forward lifting Alonwynn easily in her arms. The woman struggled weakly and Shade hissed as she began walking with determination towards the healers.

Alonwynn began to sob every movement Shade made jolting thru her body causing waves of pain. Shade stop I need a break, the pain, the pain…. Shade halted her progress and stared angrily ahead, she looked and felt ridiculous, carrying a woman thru Skara and standing idly with her. She mumbled a few choice words for Barl and then slowly began again making her way to the healers hut. After what seemed an eternity she kicked open the door to the hut and strode past the shocked healers to the nearest bed dumping Alonwynn on it.

I HATE YOU. Shade smiled wryly, the feeling is certainly mutual. She threw some gold coins on the ground and yelled angrily at the healers. Get in here this woman needs attention! Shade hissed pulling her shroud around her and strode out the door, leaving the pain wracked body of Alonwynn to the healers care. She had fulfilled his command she would do no more.

Alonwynn stirred in the bed waking from what most certainly was a nightmare. She Opened her eyes and saw only dark as her eyes fought to adjust to the night. She heard the crickets just out the window beside her.
She began to sit up in her bed when she heard, “ Now Miss I really must protest. You will loose your strength before the morning light”
Alonwynn looked up at the fussing nurse maid as she stepped into the moonlight that illuminated where she lay. As the nurse reached for the blanket to tuck her back in, Alonwynn gasped. The very arm that the nurse was reaching toward Alon was peeling. The skin was peeling off the bone almost as a snake shed’s its skin. Her flesh began to not only peel but rot straight to the bone.
Alonwynn put her hand to her face to hide from the gruesome sight. She felt the nurse place a hand on her shoulder in what was almost a motherly gesture to comfort the young girl. Alonwynn began to flail her arms through the air and scream with all her might.
“ Quiet child! You’ll wake the whole village” The woman hissed. “What’s In your head? You screamed as if you’ve seen a ghost.”
Alonwynn opened her eyes to see the most curious look on the nurses face. The nurse looked concerned and flustered at Alon’s attempts to keep her away. The woman before Alonwynn’s was a slightly portly woman. Her plump arms were crossed in front on her chest. She had a round face and the rosiest cheeks Alonwynn had ever seen. Her skin now was almost the color of clouds in a sunset. Her brown hair coming down from her head in tendrils of curls, accentuating her face.
Alonwynn tried to catch her breath as she said, “ Your skin, it’s not...not peeling”
“Of course it’s not child. Who has heard of such a thing! Peeling Skin!”
“ But...but...but you..”
“That’s quite enough for now child. Back to sleep with you, clearly you are lacking.”
Alon’s mind was reeling. Did I just imagine it? Is my mind too exhausted to filter these images from my mind’s eye? She wondered. There’s only one way to find out.
“Madame?”
“What is it now child?”
“May I have a mirror?”
“Whatever for?”
Looking the woman straight in the eye, Alon said, “ It has been two years since I have seen my own expression. I wish to see how I have changed”
“Very well” The nurse said and left the room to search for a mirror. She could still hear the nurse scurrying about looking around the hut.
The moon was still shining out the window reflecting off the water. Ripples of silvery moonlight danced on the water’s edge. She tore her gaze from the moon to see her beside table. There was a glass of what looked like mandrake root. The slight smell of apple in the glass confirmed her suspicion. She remembered this remedy from her Druid Friends.
“Here you are dear. You are in for a treat. You are quite beautiful, save the dark circles under eyes.” The nurse said as she gave the mirror to Alonwynn.
Alonwynn held the mirror down on the bed and took a bracing breath.
“Child what are you waiting for?” The woman inquired.
Slowly letting out all her breath she brought the mirror to her eyes. She saw eyes peering back at her that were sunken in and lifeless. Her skin was the grey color of a storm cloud. The skin began to peel revealing the bone underneath. Fighting tears and the urge to scream once more she thought, What did you do to me? And more importantly What am I? Noticing her distress the nurse maid said,” I did warn you of your dark circles. A little more of sleep should clear that right up!”
