More leaflets are pinned upon Sanctus' doors.
Greetings Travellers,
Once again I write to those of you who live in, or are passing by, the city of Sanctus. In my last piece of literature, I expressed my feelings towards the very harsh treatments that Sanctus puts on those who practice Necromancy. And since, my travels to Sanctus have been met with nothing but evil glares, insults, and threats. The way I am treated in Sanctus reminds me of the way I was treated in Umbra during the Ebon Skull's reign. The only difference is, I wasn't sentenced to death in Umbra for practicing an art that they opposed.
Sanctus has made quite a name for itself. However, the kingdom seems to have forgotten the very principles of its foundation: the virtue system. For example, let us observe their lack of compassion and justice. They claim that their slaughtering of necromancers, simply due to the fact that they practice their life-long studied art, is justified because this necromancy "just might" be a true necromancer. Let us make the first point that Law and Justice are two seperate things. Following the Law is not always just, especially in this case. Such laws actually promote wrongdoing. Such laws... promote murder. Nevermind that this person may only be studying necromancy out of curiosity. Nevermind that this person may have a spouse and some kids at home. Nevermind what this person is feeling. They practice necromancy, and therefore deserve to die.
It is arguable that Necromancy is evil. However, simple logic will negate these ideas. Necromancy and Chivalry are two seperate practices. Necromancy is generally represented by a hooded figure and a bloodthirsty bat familiar, while Chivalry is depicted by a knight in shining armor. Now let's look at the real world here. There are many, many people in these lands that use Chivalry in selfish acts. They use it to kill others, and for self-gain. These will be called "misguided" souls. Now that we all agree that Chivalry can be used in opposition of the way it is supposed to be used, logic will deduct that so can Necromancy. The argument for this that is commonly heard near the Hostel is, "Name one spell in the Necromancy book that benefits someone else." Quite frankly, all of them can be used to save a friend from a killer. But if you mean DIRECTLY benefit someone else, none. And at the same time, I challenge you to name me ONE spell that will DIRECTLY benefit someone else from the books of Bushido and Ninjitsu. Name one.
The Ebon Skull is also finger-pointed when Necromancy is brought into the conversation, saying that "The Ebon Skull used necromancy, they are evil." Well, some of the Ebon Skull also used Chivalry. This, therefore, is proof in the fact that the magic words on a page do not beget good or evil. The intentions of one's soul will show in their actions through their heart, and not the words they speak from the pages of arcane literature.
I hope you enjoyed this longer read. There will be more.

Vaen tossed Beowulf a leaflet. "Read it." He said. Beowulfs eyes quickly worked their way down the page.
"Should have been a diplomat instead of a fighter." Beo said while smirking. "I do of course, wonder what of the response." |

Mallory was walking through Sanctus when a leaflet fluttering in the summer breeze caught her attention. She picked it up and as her eyes skimmed over it her brow furrowed slightly. How she wished there was someone for her to talk to. She felt all alone in this, she did not agree entirely with either side, but she also knew that she could not stay caught in the middle. On one side there was Sanctus, people that had become dear to her and a place she had called her home for quite some time. She had sworn her sword to protect it and the Virtues she followed. On the other side there was the Legion, a group that she had spent much time with while learning the way of the sword. Vaen, her first love, and still very important and influential in her life, Mave and Beowulf, who had been like brothers to her, teaching her and teasing her, and Shalish, a man that Mallory did not know very well, but sensed goodness in him and his laughter. She sighed again and repined the leaflet to the Sanctus bulletin board as she shook her head. She might not agree totally, but they had the right to freely express their thoughts and opinions. She, herself, was no closer to reaching a decision in either direction, and she wished that there was someone she could talk to… _________________ Good friends are like stars.
