There's a lot of issues with the current client that go beyond that of the graphics. UO has switched hands quite a bit, I bet the code has gotten to the point where it's hard to maintain and add new code into.
A new client will fix those issues, not to mention make updating easier. I'd hardly call it just eyecandy e_e

Now even Dodo drools and I am glad that my account is still paid for. 2007 is a long long time to go and much can change. But I think those improved graphics will be at least tempting me to return (and most likely I'll be bored with WOW by then, I'm already at 60 on my main and hardly play him anymore, even though I havent done any real raids).
