The pounding in her head awoke her at dawn. The sun's first rays were shining in the window. Carefully she sat up not to disturb Kel as he slept. She held her head in her hands, rocking back and forth and chanting a spell to make it go away.

These headaches were getting more frequent with each night that passed. Before the headaches came the dreams. More like nightmares that haunted her in her sleep. The dark figures on dark horses chasing her through dark streets or sometimes woods. Always on her heels and all she could do was run.

Nothing made her feel terror as these dreams did. And each night they got worse. She tried to shake the feeling of horror off and she sat in her bed in the safety of the palace. Looking over she wondered if anything or anyone could protect her from what haunted her. She watched Kel as he slept. So at peace with a slight smile on his face and his white hair spilling over the pillow.

She brushed his hair from his face with hope that he would keep her safe. In the depths of her heart she knew that until she knew who or what these riders were she would not. Are they more drow sent to find her? Or are they something else? Uneasily she tried to lie back down and rest. Kel snuggled around her as she lay shaking slightly. She could only pray that if she fell asleep again the nightmares didn't haunt her...

...and yet all the while, within her mind, Jode grew more and more excited by the visions that came within her. For every evening that she had such awful nightmares, they were but bittersweet dreams to him. For what he saw as the dreams occured were the Riders, coming for him with all their might, almost as if he believed it was a sign of things to come. And in the front of the riders, streaking down the cobble roadways in all their fury, rode the leader which bright white hair, and a dark wicked expression all over his face. His hand reached forth from the steed, coming closer and closer to Jode as he stood waiting for them...

For where she found terror, he found salvation.

"A taste of things to come...", Jode muttered in his thoughts.
