Mining is a hard life.

Sorrow’s father had been a minor in the Trinsic mines years ago. His stories of how he had hauled ore from the mines and walked it into the city to the blacksmith while sometimes having to slide past the cutthroats and murders that would steal from the people who tried to enter the city. He had eventually made enough to purchase a small house and had it build just outside a very profitable mine. He eventually had made enough money and moved into the business of selling products he made. Wealth brought new property and eventually his first wife. His older brother Shihan had been the result of that relationship but his wife had died at child birth. His father did not speak of the time that followed her death often. He had moved around several times becoming very wealthy through his business ventures. It had taken years before his father had taken another wife, Sorrow’s mother, and again settled down. The brother’s age difference was 9 years. While they were family they still rarely spoke. Shihan had gone into the world and away from his father very young in life while Sorrow had stayed and helped his father and later his mother in the family business. His father died when Sorrow was twenty and he had taken to adventure rather than helping his mother run the business.

The letter from his brother had surprised him. They had very little to do with each all though they were not on bad terms. They had really only lived in the same house for a couple of years and Sorrow knew that his father and Shihan never were close. But family was family and Shihan had found him after not talking to each other in a year or two. He had asked him to come to the Royal Court of Light to talk to him. Some odd twist of fate had even tied Sorrow to the court so it was interesting that the two would have so much in common but still had not bothered to talk to each other.

Traveling from Luna to the court was easy but he expected a larger place. He entered the building and found his brother sitting in what looked like a court house. “Shihan my brother, it’s been years.” Sorrow said when Shihan looked up to see who had entered.

“You made it, and on time?” Shihan quipped but he had a bright smile on his face as he stood up and pounced his brother with a big hug. Slapping Sorrow on the back he was talking and leading his brother to a teleporter that lead to a more pleasant room in the building.

He wants something Sorrow though. Shihan had a way of being charming and overly polite when he was up to something. He had mastered it when he wanted things from their father. His father had never outright given anything to Shihan, he had needed to work it from his father one way or another. Sorrow had seen and learned when his brother and he was working his mojo now.

“Enough, what do you want?” Sorrow finally said as he waved his hand though the air. “I know its something or you would not have asked me to come.”

Grinning, Shihan stood and grabbed a bottle of wine and poured two glasses. Giving one to Sorrow he said, “Yes I guess you still know me well. Sorrow I need you to help me in a situation that I can not take of myself and I wish to have somebody I trust to take care of it and keep it discreet.” He took a drink of wine and sat down. “This is the problem. A friend of mine named Lily has been having problems with someone in her past. I want to place someone to watch over her. I am, hmmm, let’s say obliged to help her; but I think the situation as it is, does not permit me to be directly involved.”

Sorrow was snorting to himself. “So you want me to watch a girlfriend of yours.” He laughed.

Shihan shook his head slowly. “No Sorrow I don’t think I can say she is a girlfriend. You know I don’t think long term relationships work. But she is a close friend, and it is that reason I am concerned. It is something I need someone with your skills and the trust of family to know it is done right. Can you help?” He took another sip of his glass and set it down then looked to see if his request would be honored.

The floor had a nice design on it Sorrow thought.

He was trying to figure out how long he would let his brother stir before he said he would he help him as he noticed this fact.

Looking up he noticed his brother was now holding him with a intent stare. He smiled and gulped his glass of wine and set it down. “Yes Shihan I will help. So how much are you going to give me to play babysitter for you anyway?” He held up his fists in a mocking gesture.

Shaking his head Shihan picked up his glass again and took a sip. “Thank you Sorrow, I appreciate it. Actually I may have something you might be interested in after this if you want. But anyway, will introduce you to Lily and have her tell you her story so you can get an idea of what you are working with. I hope you have not eaten, I have a large lunch being prepared at my house.”
