Kel slowly made his way back to Skara Brae, preferring to walk rather than take a more direct route home from the palace. His recent time spent with Ishtar had been...interesting. Interesting to say the least.
She had told him of an old acquaintance, Jode Bonewits. Apparently Bonewits had visited her on her sickbed while Kel was away in the Underdark. He did not like this recent turn of events. Ishtar explained that Bonewits was now in her head and she was researching a way to expell him. Kel shook his head in confusion. By all accounts, Bonewits was dead. It was his spirit, his essence that was visiting his beloved. What were the possible implications of such a "possession"?
Kel pushed the thoughts of Bonewits to the back of his mind. Ishtar had said she would take care of the situation and he trusted her. It was his own revelation that bothered him most. In the face of her honesty about her situation Kel forced himself to recount to her his visit home. Ishtar had reacted quite differently to his brutality than he had expected. She was supportive and understanding. He felt that there was more that she was not revealing though. He felt that she had repressed a revulsion in order to spare his feelings. Kel truly felt a bit of guilt for his actions in defending his family. He had killed almost 40 drow in the battle, not to mention countless goblin minions that did not warrant counting. But his guilt was more because of his anticipation of Ishtar's reaction, not for the deed itself.
How would she react if she knew the truth of who he was? That his regret stemmed not from a moral reaction but from fear of losing her love. He shook his head and resolved to never let her see that side of him. Sometimes the whole truth is too damaging. |

After Kel left the Palace Ishtar sat at the grand dining table in the throne room. So many thoughts raced through her mind. Most of all she felt some comfort knowing where her beloved Kel was while she was ill and that he came back to her for the most part unscathed. At least the cuts on his hands and arms made sense to her.
Their long talk helped her speak of her recent interaction with Jode, even though he was gone from this realm of body his spirit remained trapped within her mind. She knew she had to find a way to set his spirit free and very carefully at that. With a "sigh" she thought of the black tome that had the needed spells to do so and knew she would need to delve into it in order to free Jode and herself.
When she told Kel she knew he wasn't pleased with what she told him, but she felt she had to be open with him in regards to what happened to her. In turn he told her the truth of where he ventured without notice. He seemed surprised by her reaction but knew he watered down the facts a bit. He is a drow and part of his nature will never leave him, this acknowledgment she knew in the depths of her heart. To love him she would need to understand and accept this. The question is will he every show her that side of him completely? She knew in time things will reveal themselves.
On that last thought she stood up and made her way upstairs to the tome and hopefully her freedom. |
