The librarian stared at the green haired woman who stood in front of her desk. Her hair a shocking mess, her pale skin contrasting sharply against the dark cloth of her clothes the stern librarian looked at her reproachfully over the rim of her spectacles.
YOU seek the scribings on the Virtues? Shade cracked a smile. Yes of course why not? The woman gave her a harried look and ran off to the back room returning with a large tome, staggering from the weight she set it on the desk. Shade traced the leather bound tome with her finger, the word Virtues popping off the top of the book. She smiled and grasping it lifted it with ease. May I borrow it? The woman gave her a stern look, that book is not to leave the library my dear. You will have to work with it at one of the tables. She eyed Shade as she grasped the book easily in one arm shaking her head at the womans strength. Shade smiled at the woman as if reading her thoughts, this is my swords arm. The woman looked surprised. You are a swordswoman? Shade smiled, I have trained a bit.
Grinning she turned and quietly made her way to a table, the morning young she sat down and opened the first page pulling out her parchment and a black feathered quill she studiously began to write. The librarian watched her steadily then returned reluctantly to her task.
The day deepened and shadows moved slowly across the walls, a tapping at the window broke the silence of the library. The librarian looked up to see a nightingale fluttering softly outside the window. This was an odd occurrence, rising she walked to the window and opened it the bird flitting inside a soft musical appreciation coming from its throat. It landed surprisingly on the shoulder of the strange green haired woman. Perhaps there was more to the strange woman than met the eye. She walked up to the woman, I am sorry ma’am we do not allow pets into the library. Shade looked up, please can you not make an exception, he is well trained. The Librarian looked perturbed. Very well miss, but if it makes noise it will have to leave. Shade smiled and lovingly patted the bird on her shoulder and nuzzled it with her nose. He will behave no worries ma’am.
Night fell and the hour grew late, the young woman had not moved all day, the librarian approached her. The hour grows late Miss. Shade nodded closing the book. I have all I need for today. She closed the book and passed it to the Librarian. I shall see you tomorrow. Rising she left without another word the bird still sitting motionless on her shoulder, as the woman walked outside the librarian heard the bird break into lovely song almost as if it was singing just for the green haired woman. Had the librarian only known, it was a familiar tune to Shade, he had often sung his little song about dead pixies. Shade chuckled gently to herself as the bird sang it softly to her. _________________ Something is Wrong, I can still feel Existence... |
