Smiling she stood in her linen gown and looked at the night sky from the palace balcony. The cool breeze lifted her spirits as she closed her eyes thinking of her earlier conversation with Keldril. He was so genuine in his words. His nature was kind, regardless of her sister's thoughts on his race. He made her feel safe and warm.

Opening her eyes she looked at the moon above. Her thoughts again drifted the Keldril. He spoke to her abut how she wanted him to surprise her and his surprise both astonished and warmed her heart. He had given her his.

"I love him", she thought out loud. "I know I do."

However with those thoughts and that truth said, a long road was ahead of her. The questions started rolling through her mind..."What will my sister think? What will this future bring? How will we be accepted?

She shook her head at all the question and let out a soft "sigh". "I want to be happy and make my own choices. I cannot let all those things ruin that.", she stated aloud.

With a slight smile she turned and went back into the palace. As she climbed into her soft sheets she closed her eyes dreamily with thoughts of Keldril...

Kel knelt upon the hard stone floor before the altar of his goddess and immersed himself in prayer and contemplation. For several minutes he remained motionless before turning slowly to his left. He rose and walked over to the wall where he had a local farmer chained and looked curiously upon the man.

"Tell me what it means to love another." He quietly demanded of the prisoner. The man looked incredulously back at him through his red-rimmed, tear-filled eyes. "You slaughter my wife, my family and you dare ask questions of love?!" The man gasped with a voice shaking with rage and sorrow. Keldril shrugged and looked at the man with disgust. "Is it not possible for one to commit such acts and feel love?" He demanded. "You cannot feel love, you cannot know love." The man spat. "Let us attempt a different approach. You love your wife yes?" Kel asked of him. "I loved her more than life." The man answered through clenched teeth.

Keldril moved to the opposite side of the worship chamber and threw back a black curtain revealing the man's spouse chained to the opposite wall. She was still very much alive. "How?" The man cried as his eyes widened with shock. "I wish to see the depths of your dedication to this woman. Would you fight me for her life even though you have not a prayer of defeating me?" Keldril inquired. "I was trained in my youth by a master swordsman. Give me a weapon and I will run you through." The man answered as a ray of hope beamed from his face.

After releasing the man from his bondage and crossing to the center of the room Keldril tossed him a sword of fine craftsmanship and bade him to begin. With a smirk he calmly whispered, "Say when." After parrying several attacks easily Kel tired of his opponent's futile offensive and quickly spun a thrust to the side and jammed his dagger through the man's throat.

As the man gurgled and thrashed in the throes of death Keldril slowly circled the room in quite thought. He unchained the farmer's wife and lead her to the sacrificial altar, smiled and said outloud, "Surely I would face such odds for the life of Lady Ishtar. I love her. There can be no doubt." Nodding in satisfaction he sacrificed the woman prisoner to his goddess and made his way upstairs to contemplate matters of the heart.
