The woman had been found unconscious outside the town limits, her arm badly injured a young soldier had come upon her. Chivalry at its finest. Her green hair a tangled mess and blood flowing profusely from a gash in her arm, he stopped and scooped her up on his horse, hurrying to the nearest healer.

Days later, her arm healed by a lovely old woman well versed in the arts of healing Shade emerged from the hut. Stretching she stood smiling as the young soldier pulled up on his horse. I came to check on you Milady. The healer said you recovered exceedingly fast. She smiled I have always had the gift of quick heals. He looked at her enamored and took her hand kissing it. Where do you live Milady I will escort you home. Nay, I am staying to study with the healer and help her, but you have been most kind. Out of curiosity, where are we? Aaah this is the fair city of Moonglow, Milady. Shade smiled softly, a lovely name for a city. Would you walk with me for a bit? the young soldier said. She stared at him for a moment. Alright.

The old woman healer patted her hand, her breath coming shakily. You have done well my young apprentice, never have I seen one with such a gift of healing. Shade looked at her tearfully. You are dying aren’t you? The woman smiled, I fear so. I will rest peacefully knowing the town folk are in good hands Milady. Shade bowed her head and began to cry. I shall do my best. The old woman’s eyes closed her breathing stopped.

May I see the child? The woman looked at her wearily. He doesn’t walk well milady, he has a problem with one of his legs. Shade smiled softly. I care not. A young boy of only nine hobbled thru the door at his mothers call. He had a heavy limp. Shade smiled at the boy looking up at the mother with a knowing nod. What is your name young man? The boy stared at her frightened but stood bravely in front of his mother. They call me Arrow; he said his voice cracking nervously, as I am good with a bow. Indeed Arrow, you must have an eye for precision. Giving him a warm smile he beamed at her forgetting his nervousness. May I see your leg? Does it hurt you? The boy took a step forward and sat down on the chair in front of her. Kneeling Shade lifted his leg inspecting it. The muscles of his leg were a bit twisted and knotted, the circulation to it poor she pulled a salve from her pack and rubbed it into the skin, chanting softly. The boy looked at her frightened, but his mother hovered looking anxious. You think you can fix this Milady? Aye it will improve with each treatment. The little boy giggled, that tickles, and flexed his leg. He smiled happily, momma its better. I can turn my foot see! Shade grinned rising, bring him back next week; one more treatment should do it. The woman watched as her little boy for the first time, did a hobbled version of a run, laughing as he flew around the room. The woman’s eyes filling with tears as she watched him. We haven’t much but name your price Milady. Shade smiled, all I ask is your kind words for me on the ears of others ma’am. A bird flitted in the door and landed gently on Shades shoulder. The little boy looked at it, Is that your bird? Shade grinned yes this is my pet Nightingale, he will sing for you next time you come. She grinned and the little boy looked at the bird excitedly, it’s a handsome bird. I had a pet snake once, but it died. Shade smiled, Oh and before I forget, here it’s a side job but one that makes children so happy. She pulled from her pack a lovely toy soldier and handed it to the boy. He exclaimed happily, a toy for me! You make toys! Shade grinned and nodded. The boy looked at her in awe. It’s my first toy ever. He gave her a grown up look and bowed regally. Shade laughed and ruffled his hair. You are a little gentleman aren’t you? I feel sorry for the women you will charm someday. The boy gave her a look and stuck out his tongue. Girls Yuck! Laughing he ran out the door his mother following happily behind him, turned and said to Shade, Milady you’re an angel. Shade blushed heavily watching them leave, and murmured to herself. It's an excellent start.
