|
After sending the letter to her friends in Vesper, Alessandra sat at her desk and her mind wandered to her other friends. Those that she had been close to, and those that had left this realm. There were her first friends Fearyl and Allanon... her friends Tiggareus, Joeseph and Inkari from her days with them... Drayden and Dialmon... so many had come and gone. She sighed softly and put her head in her hands. The most recent friends Vaen and Mave.. Vaen, well he had departed from the realm at the hand of another... but Mave... she did not know where Mave had wandered to. Suddenly she looked up and plucked a piece of parchment from the pile on her desk, and she began writing...
To Lord Mave Gerhart, Honorable Knight of the Realm
From Lady Alessandra Lious, Arcane Emissary of Sanctus
My dear friend Mave,
To long has it been since we have talked. I trust that this letter finds you well and in good spirits. I have missed the company of you and our discussions. I am writing because due to some unforseen events of recent I must speak to you. I wish it had not taken this for me to write, but I eagerly look forward to your response. Please let me know when you would be available for a meeting and time to reconnect.
In Friendship Always,
Alessandra
Alessandra sealed the letter again with a seal of Sanctus, but this letter she would deliver herself. With the magical words she recalled to a home that she knew very well. Cloaked in a robe she made her way to the door, and not wanting to disturb those within, she simply left the note in a box on the front steps. Looking again up at the house and then looking around herself quickly she recalled back to the safety to her home within the limits of Sanctus and she retired for the evening. She knew that Mave's messenger would be able to seek her our, as he always seemed to know where to find her. _________________ Ken: I don't put anything in my mouth I don't intend on swallowing...

Mave sat in his chair, staring into the fire, a glass of wine in his hand.
"M'Lord, this was left on the steps", a young servant girl said quietly as she laid a box on the small table next to him.
With a slight nod, Mave whispered a barely audible "Thank you" to her as she quietly walked away.
He was tired... not physically, his elven blood saw to that, even though his aging had begun to show. No, he was just tired of this land, this world... tired of the chaos that never seemed to end. Even now, he could hear the wail of the wraiths in the woods and lands around his estate.
With a side glance at the box, he mumbled, "And I bet whatever news this holds will only add to it..."
Slowly he reached over and opened the lid, his eyes going immediately to the seal on the message.
"Sanctus, what could they be wanting?" he mumbled as he slid a dagger under the seal and opened the letter.
But as soon as he saw the first word his eyes suddenly became alive and he read quickly through the swirling script that he knew so well.
As he came to the end, Mave let out a slight sigh, glad that the message did not mention her being in immediate danger. But in his mind, as he leaned back in the chair, gazing at the fire once again, he thought that it did seem to have a tone of urgency about it. Immediately he stood up and walked over to his desk, withdrawing a quill and parchment, sitting down to write...
My dear Lady Alessandra,
You do not realize how glad I am to see your written words and once again picture your face in my mind, though I sense that you have once again found a way to immerse yourself in some type of trouble. Of course I will meet with you, and do not worry about a set time or place. I will find you when the time is right.
Walk in Honor,
Lord Mave Gerhart
*sealed with the stamp of House Gerhart*
Just as he raised the stamp from the wax, Mave looked up from his desk to see the servant girl hurrying across the room to him, smiling from ear to ear.
"Spying on me from around the corner now I see", he said with a smile.
"I am just happy to see you up and about again, not being so sullen", she said grinning as she reached for the letter. "Should I send for the messenger?"
"No, I want this delivered with utmost haste", Mave said as he handed it to her. "Take it to the roof and tell Belegohtar to deliver it. I'm assuming you know who it is to go to by the look on your face"
With a quick nod and a giggle, she took the letter and bolted up the stairs to the top of the keep.
Still smiling slightly, Mave reached over by his desk and lifted his sword belt. Pulling his sword and hatchet free of their bindings, he walked back over to his chair infront of the fire, picked up a sharpening stone and set to work.
"Who knows what she has gotten herself into this time", he said with a slight smile moving the stone across the blades. _________________ Honor is the sword I wield...

Alessandra arose from her bed and put on her dressing gown that was lying on the hearby chest. She opened the door and stepped out onto her moonlit balcony and stared out into the abyss of Malas. There was a light breeze and she closed her eyes and allowed the wind to gently blow against her face. It reminded her of standing on the shores of Moonglow as a child and she could almost smell the honeysuckle that would be growing near her home this time of year. She heard the ruffle of wings and she looked up and noticed a familiar creature heading toward her. If anyone else had seen it they would have run in terror, but no.. this beast and Alessandra knew each other almost as well as the owner and she did. So Mave responded she thought to herself and her eyes shone with happiness. She retrieved the message from Belegohtar and entered her room as he turned and made his way back to the tower. After entering the room she quickly lit a few candles and began reading the letter. As she did a soft smile crept across her lips. Why must he always think that I get myself into trouble. Just because of that little incident with the orcs that one time... oh and then there was that time with the dragons... he couldn't possibly be speaking of that boat... that certainly wasn't my fault... who knew that you could actually make a boat go too fast... She laughed softly and shook her head. Yes they had seen quite some adventures together. Their friendship was something so strong that nothing it seemed could keep them apart. She read the letter again and when she read the last part she smiled a bit more. She blew out the candles and after laying her dressing gown over the chair she returned to bed, leaving the letter on her desk. There was only one thought as she drifted off to sleep... Somehow he always knew where she was...and she knew he would find her once again. _________________ Ken: I don't put anything in my mouth I don't intend on swallowing...

Alessandra looked over her balcony and listened as the waves gently lapped the shores of the Island she had once called her home. She looked around and the houses that once belonged to her friends and her family were for the most part empty, and those that were not empty were homes to those she did not know. She sighed softly and her blue eyes traveled back out to the sea. She had recieved word from Lord Gerhart some time ago that he was urgently being called away to another realm, and he would contact her as soon as he returned. He told her to contact him immediately if she needed anything. He had left Belegohtar with her as a way to contact him, should she need to, and she felt he also left him to somehow keep an eye on her so she would stay out of trouble. He had been a comfort during this time, but it was his owner she would have rather had there.
She wrapped her arms around herself as the sun began to sink lower in the sky and as she closed her eyes a single tear rolled silently down her cheek. Why was she unable to tell him of her true feelings? He certainly must know, but the fear of losing yet another that she cared for so deeply cut her to her very soul. She wiped at the tear and shook her head. With everything that was happening in Sanctus and Moonglow, how could she be so selfish as to even think about love?
She watched as the sun sank even further down, turning the sea and the clouds into the most brilliant shades of gold and amber. As the stars began to appear in the sky and the night noises became entwined with those of the sea she continued to sit. She slowly collected the letters she had recieved from those at Sanctus, and made her way to her room. She set the letters down on her desk, and sat in the chair and brightened the lantern. She reached over to pull out a piece of parchment and she sighed softly as she began writing...
Dear Lord Gerhart,
I hope that this letter finds you well. I did not wish to interrupt you, but there is a matter of grave concern that has presented itself within the realm. It appears that those very people that have promised themselves to the Virtues, the Lady Regent, her council and her loyalists, have become the very thing we have worked so hard to rid this very world of. I have heard word of the past meetings, and the things that I hear bother me greatly. As you know, the Lady Regent was at one time a dear friend of mine, but this corruption has gone much to long. The obvious struggle is no longer that of light and dark, but that of those who have power and those that desire power. Those that serve the Virtues, no bed and make alliances with those that practice the very arts that once threatned the entire realm with everlasting darkness.
I do not write this to worry you, my dear. You know me well enough to know hat I can indeed take care of myself. I write to you to ask for your aide and your advise. I send this with your rusted friend Belegohtar knowing he will deliver it to none other than yourself. Please respond as soon as you are able. I eagerly await your response...
Yours In Virtue,
Alessandra Lious
Alessandra carefully sprinkled some finely ground sand upon the ink and once it dried she folded the letter and sealedit with a bit of wax. She placed a small purple violet within the wax before pressing it. She quietly made her way to the stables and called for Belegohtar. She gave him the message and quietly told him to make haste to his friend and his master. As she watched him fly off she looked again out to the water and wiped away another solitary tear from her cheek. _________________ Ken: I don't put anything in my mouth I don't intend on swallowing...

Mave leaned over the side of the ship, starring off into the distance. The journey had been long and tiring. Even as dark and dreary as Dark Cove had become, he still yearned for his own bed and Keep.
As he gazed at the horizon he caught the flicker of movement... something moving quickly towards the ship. Yelling a warning to the captain he quickly climbed up to the crow's nest and peered trying to make out the form. After a few more moments, Mave called down a reasuring shout. He recognized how that dragon flew and it sent a chill down his spine, wondering what could have made his trusted companion leave his assigned post and come to find him.
Mave made his way back down to the deck and waited as Belegohtar came closer and gently settled down as the sailors gave him a wide berth. Reaching over Mave took a letter from the clawed forearm Belegohtar extended outward.
As soon as he saw the purple flower, it confirmed in his mind who it was from and the fact that she had used Belegohtar to deliver this message when he had specifically left him at her side meant it was extremely important. Quickly he ripped open the letter and read...
As he finished reading, Mave looked up to the helmsman.
"Where is the captain?", he shouted over the spray of the sea.
With a jerk of his head, the sailor indicated that the captian of the ship had gone below to his office. With a nod, Mave quickly moved into the ship.
With a shove, Mave opened the door to his office and tossed a bag of gold to the captain who caught it with a quick hand, honed by many years at sea.
"I must be off my old friend, there is payment for the trip.", Mave said as he tightened his sword belt, securing his hatchet and other gear.
"I thought I smelled that rotten beast of yours", the captain said with a grin as he tossed the bag into a chest by his desk. "What is it this time? Orc invasion? More blasted ghosts? Elves fighting amongst themselves?"
"It's not the problem that hastens my actions, it is the one that requests my help" Mave says with a wink, securing a purple flower inside his cloak.
With a sigh, the captain slowly shook his head and chuckled slightly.
"Find me if you have need", Mave shouted as he hurried out the door, "Walk in Honor old friend".
Bounding up onto the deck, Mave made sure all his things were secure one more time then jumped on the back of Belegohtar.
With a wave to the crew, Mave patted his mount's flank and they slowly lifted off the deck.
"Back to the Keep my friend", Mave said and the wind whipped by. "A change of clothes then we will go see what has caused this latest rift in the delicate balance of the land." _________________ Honor is the sword I wield...
